- Manage personnel and resources in developing, implementing and monitoring in-house electrical projects, support and assistance.
- Recommend electrical equipment upgrades, obtain and retract permits
- Develop and prepare operating budget.
- Reviews electrical plans, evaluates department's electrical facilities and oversees contract.
- Coordinate with CenterPoint and other energy providers.
- Develops five-year plan for specific projects.
- Establishes goals and evaluates section performance.
- Develops and evaluates subordinates.
WORKING CONDITIONSThis position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSRequires a high school degree or a GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Seven (7) years of journey-level electrician experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience, are required.
Substitution: A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for two (2) years of the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTSA valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License is required.
Requires a valid State of Texas Master Electrician License if the position is responsible for obtaining and retracting electrical permits.
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED - NONEDepartment may administer skills assessment test.SAFETY IMPACT POSITION - YES
