2nd Shift - 2pm - 10pm

Job Description

The Dock Worker plays a key role in daily shipping and receiving operations by safely loading and unloading materials, accurately handling inventory, and providing responsive customer service in a fast-paced environment. This role requires someone who is comfortable working on their feet for most of the shift, and able to work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks and trailers safely and efficiently using pallet jacks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing shipments, ensuring accurate verification of quantities, product types, and documentation.
  • Perform accurate order picking, packing, and staging of products for shipment according to customer and carrier requirements.
  • Generate and process shipping documents, including bills of lading, packing lists, and shipping labels.
  • Use shipping platforms and coordinate with carriers such as UPS, FedEx, USPS, and LTL freight providers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Operate barcode scanning systems and handheld RF scanners to track inventory movement and maintain accurate records.
  • Use basic computer applications, including Google Sheets and inventory management systems (WMS, ERP, or similar software), to enter and update shipping and receiving data.
  • Apply basic math skills to verify counts, weights, and measurements for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dock area, including assisting with washing and cleaning to remove excess materials from the floor as required by the facility.
  • Work efficiently while standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility for the majority of the shift.
  • Provide strong customer service to internal teams, drivers, and external partners by communicating clearly and resolving issues promptly.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to equipment operation, product handling, and facility cleanliness.
  • Work independently as a self-starter, managing time and tasks to meet shipping and receiving deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills

  • Previous shipping and receiving experience.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working on your feet for the majority of the shift.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of Google Sheets.
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying shipments.
  • Strong customer service skills for working with drivers, carriers, and internal teams.
  • Experience with loading, unloading, and general material handling.
  • Ability to operate pallet jacks and forklifts or willingness to learn and apply safe operating procedures.
  • Experience working independently as a self-starter with minimal supervision.

Additional Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with inventory management systems such as WMS, ERP, or similar software.
  • Experience with shipping platforms and carriers, including UPS, FedEx, USPS, and LTL freight.

Work Environment

This role is based in a cold, wet industrial facility that operates in a slaughterhouse environment, where low temperatures are necessary for product safety and quality. The floor is regularly washed to remove excess materials, so surfaces can be wet and require appropriate caution and footwear. You will spend most of your shift on your feet, moving between the dock and storage areas, operating equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and handheld RF scanners, and using computers for data entry. The environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, and appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and comfort in cold and wet conditions.

This is a Contract position based out of Lancaster, KY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $14.00 - $20.00/hr.
