Director of Operations

Emerald Compounding Pharmacy
Tampa, FL

Tampa, FL · On-site · Full-time · Reports to COO

Emerald is a Tampa-based specialty compounding pharmacy — 100+ people, profitable, founder-led, growing fast. We serve patients and telehealth partners across sexual health, dermatology, fertility, and metabolic health, and we're building the operational muscle to carry the business through its next chapter.

The role

The Director of Operations is the operator on the floor. The person who makes sure the pharmacy runs cleanly, the team runs smoothly, and the numbers hit every week. You'll be the COO's right hand and the functional leader most of the operations team works with every day.

What you'll own

  • Run the operation. Daily compounding, dispensing, shipping, and patient services. Hit the numbers, every week.
  • SOPs and systems. Build the work instructions and training that make the operation reliable at 2x and 5x today's volume.
  • KPIs. Order accuracy, turnaround time, on-time shipping, cost per script, labor productivity, quality escapes — improve them quarter over quarter.
  • People leadership. Lead and grow a team of managers and leads across shifts. Build a bench so the operation isn't fragile.
  • Quality-first. Partner with quality and regulatory to keep us audit-ready all the time, not just in the week before.
  • Client operations. Own capacity planning, SLA performance, and issue resolution for our largest telehealth partners.

Year one

  • Drive step-change improvement in turnaround time and order accuracy as volume scales.
  • Build the SOPs, training, and management rhythms that let us hire and onboard faster without sacrificing quality.
  • Support the facility stand-up from the 503A side — clean handoffs, shared systems, no finger-pointing.
  • Become the operational single-point-of-contact our biggest telehealth partners trust.

Who you are

  • 10+ years in operations leadership, running a regulated, high-volume healthcare or pharmacy operation — 503A/503B, specialty pharmacy, telehealth/DTC fulfillment, or pharma manufacturing.
  • You've personally led an ops team through a volume doubling (or more) and lived to tell about it.
  • Comfortable on the floor. You know the difference between a process problem, a people problem, and a system problem — and you fix the right one.
  • Fluent in USP <797>/<800>, state board expectations, and FDA/DEA for pharmacy operations. 503B / cGMP exposure is a strong plus.
  • PharmD / RPh is a plus, not required.
  • In-person in Tampa. Relocation supported.
