Job Summary:

The Director of Manufacturing provides strategic and operational leadership for all manufacturing operations Adhesives Research Glen Rock manufacturing campus. This role is responsible for driving performance of the manufacturing operations to meet business objectives related to safety, quality, delivery and cost. Responsible for all aspects of day-to-day production including resource allocation, productivity, yields, product quality and delivery performance assuring safe implementation thereof and compliance with all relevant regulations (e.g. ISO, FDA, OSHA, EPA-DEP, etc.) and company procedures.


Essential Functions:

  • Safety
  • Leverage daily, weekly, and monthly communications and actions to strive for zero accidents
  • Assures a safe work environment and that all practices are conducted in a safe and effective manner
  • Develops and sustains behavior-based auditing programs
  • Grows safety committee efforts and continues to strengthen the safety culture within the AR family
  • Drives continuous improvements through
  • Leadership
  • Develop and maintains long term manufacturing maturity roadmap which accompanying areas for investment and subsequent resource allocation to best meet business objectives and customer commitments.
  • Develops vision and effectively communicates and reinforces to team
  • Effective leadership of managers, experienced professional staff and operational associates
  • Promote a productive work environment with high employee engagement levels
  • Effectively coordinates with regional business and functional counterparts
  • Effectively communicates operational status within function as well as across division and company
  • Ensures all operational associates, supervisors and managers are fully oriented and trained
  • Effectively manages operational workforce including but not limited to assuring up-to-date position descriptions, establishment and auditing of performance expectations, annual reviews, career planning, and individual development plans
  • Conducts all aspects of position in a professional, respectful manner consistent with AR Guiding Principles and the Corporate Quality Policy; embraces & champions 6S LEAN culture; organizes personnel workspace and appearance consistent with corporate professional image.


  • Execution
  • Sets achievable stretch goals aligned to AR operational KPI’s and holds the team accountable
  • Develop the key metrics around Safety, Quality , Delivery and Cost for execution and to best meet business objectives and customer commitments
  • Continuously challenge metrics for improvement
  • Embraces and champions 6S LEAN culture; organizes personnel workspace and appearance consistent with corporate professional image
  • Engages with quality team, critically addresses opportunities, and delivers a quality product on first pass
  • Process optimization
  • Monitors and drive improvement on current visual management and daily Gemba management practices
  • Sets annual goals (quality, scrap, etc.), plans implementations, and assigns resources to improve both operator and process efficiencies
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement actions as warranted; makes identifiable and substantial contributions to continuous improvement of the process and product quality



Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for operational strategy consistent with overall business/divisional strategy; participates in overall business strategy formulation, annual business planning, budget forecasting; manages and executes spending consistent with objectives
  • Regularly monitors key metrics and communicates status versus goals
  • Coordinates and supports as needed product development assuring smooth and robust transition to commercial production to support top line sales growth
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned



Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or related field
  • People-first focus, leadership skills, personal energy, the ability to energize and inspire others, ability to make difficult decisions
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations including mentoring and management in related industry
  • Polymerization experience and knowledge preferred
  • Strong leadership, influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills to resolve equipment, component, scheduling, quality, safety, and personnel issues and concerns
  • Relevant computer systems proficiency in a manufacturing environment as well as with standard desktop computer software applications
  • Trained, experienced and proficient in application of statistical methodology in problem solving and process control optimization
  • Trained and experienced in operational practices and systems (e.g. ERP) with relevant certifications (e.g. APICS, LEAN, etc.)
  • Travels up to 10% of time as needed
