Position

The Director of Construction will serve as the senior operational leader for the company's high-end residential construction platform, with average project costs ranging from $10M - $50M. This individual will oversee all phases of construction operations while acting as the primary liaison between ownership, clients, architects, designers, consultants, project teams, and field personnel.


This highly visible leadership role requires a unique combination of construction expertise, client relationship management, financial acumen, and team leadership capabilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with the company's longstanding reputation for quality and service.

Director of Construction will oversee a team of experienced construction professionals and will play a key role in mentoring, developing, and retaining talent throughout the organization. The role will also serve as the primary relationship manager for homeowners, architects, designers, and owner's representatives throughout the construction process. This position requires an executive-level leader capable of balancing strategic oversight with hands-on involvement when necessary.


Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight for all construction operations and project execution activities.
  • Lead multiple concurrent high-end residential construction projects from preconstruction through completion.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, owner's representatives, architects, interior designers, consultants, and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.
  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, forecasting, and resource allocation.
  • Mentor, develop, and lead project managers and other construction personnel.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to establish operational priorities and strategic objectives.
  • Review and negotiate contracts, proposals, change orders, and consultant agreements.
  • Partner closely with accounting and finance teams to monitor project financial performance and reporting.
  • Identify and proactively mitigate project risks, challenges, and operational issues.
  • Maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and industry partners.
  • Drive accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence throughout the construction organization.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related discipline preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive construction leadership experience.
  • Significant experience overseeing luxury residential or other highly customized construction projects.
  • Demonstrated success working directly with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth homeowners who maintain exceptionally high standards for quality, craftsmanship, design, and execution; possesses the patience, professionalism, and client-service mindset necessary to navigate demanding personalities, evolving expectations, and highly customized project requirements.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple concurrent projects and construction teams.
  • Strong understanding of construction operations, project management, budgeting, scheduling, estimating, and contract administration.
  • Experience managing client relationships at the ownership and executive level.
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with experience managing project profitability and performance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working within entrepreneurial or privately held organizations preferred.
