Supervision

Work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor/manager.

Does not directly or indirectly supervise other employees but may provide work direction to temporary employees.


Work Schedule
1 Position - 40 Hours/Week, 12 Months/Year - Monday - Friday 4:00 pm - 12:30 am

2 Positions - 40 Hours/Week, 12 Months/Year - Tuesday - Saturday 4:00 am - 12:30 pm

1 Position - 30 Hours/Week, 12 Months/Year - Monday - Friday 11:00 am - 5:30 pm

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties and responsibilities are typical of those performed in this classification.

  • Performs a variety of custodial and facility maintenance tasks bymaintainingassigned buildings and grounds in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.

  • Sweeps, mops, buffs, waxes, and seals floorsinassignedareas,includingclassrooms, laboratories,restrooms, lobbies, stairways, and hallways as assigned; sweeps sidewalks, stairs, and patios.

  • Extracts, shampoos, spot cleans, and vacuums carpets and rugsin offices, classrooms, and hallways.

  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles and replaces liners; picks-up and disposes of papers and other debris.

  • Cleans, scrubs, disinfects, polishes, and washes windows, walls, floors, furnishings, fixtures, equipment, counters, and white boards; polishes metal work and fixtures.

  • Dustswindows,blinds,wall hangings, lamps, cabinets, furniture, and computers.

  • Cleans restrooms, lockerrooms, and shower rooms; cleansand sanitizestoilets, sinks, and sanitary containers as assigned; cleans and sanitizes drinking fountains.

  • Replenishesbathroomsupplies;fills paper and soap dispensers; replaces large and smallwaste receptacleliners.

  • Secures internal and external entry and exit doors;ensureswindows arelocked,and lights are turned off;identifiesand reports needed repairs and vandalismto supervisoror lead custodian.

  • Performsminor non-technical repairs and adjustments to equipment and buildings;uses a plunger to unclog restrooms, adjusts desks and other furniture,andchangesvacuum brushes.

  • Rearranges, assembles, and moves furniture and equipmentsuch aschairs, tables, barriers, floor mats,and other items as assignedin and between rooms,buildingsand/or gymnasiums as needed;assistswith set-up for events, including assembly and breakdown of event tents,as needed.

  • Drivesanelectric cart toassistinmoving tables and other furniture,andother related items as needed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The education, training,and experience qualifications are considered likely toprovidethe required knowledge and abilities to perform the above essential duties.


Education and Experience:

Highschooldiploma or equivalent.

Six(6)monthsof custodial orgeneral maintenanceexperience.


Licenses/Certifications/Other Requirements:

None.


Knowledge of:

  • Materials and equipment used for cleaning.

  • Proper use of cleaning disinfectants,supplies,materials, tools,and equipment related to custodialand maintenancework.

  • Safe work practices and sanitary regulationsin custodial and maintenance work.

  • Safe and proper use and storage of hazardous and toxic substances.

  • Proper lifting techniques.

  • Methods of prioritizing, planning,and organizing work.

  • Correct use of the English language, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

  • Principles and practices of customer service.


Ability to:

  • Perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance tasks.

  • Readand followsafety instructions and labels on cleaning supplies and equipment,includingappropriate concentrationsand dilutions.

  • Use custodial cleaning supplies andmaintenanceequipmentincluding a vacuum cleaner, buffer, smallpowerand hand tools.

  • Assemble and move large equipment, furniture, and other items.

  • Observe and report needed maintenance and repairs.

  • Operatean electric vehicleon thecampusasassigned.

  • Prioritize work and complete assignmentsaccurately andwithin established deadlines.

  • Provideand obtain detailed information to/from others.

  • Perform and prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Provide customer service witha high levelof sensitivity,tactand patience.

  • Exercise reasonable judgment in performing job duties.

  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Establish andmaintaincooperative and effective working relationships with all employees and othersencounteredin the course of work.

  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds ofcommunity collegestudents.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS:

  • Lifting: frequent lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional liftingup to75 pounds withassistance.

  • Hearing/Talking: frequent hearing and speaking in person,on the telephoneand on a radio.

  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: frequent contact with others.


ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work typically occurs in both indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure tovaried weather conditionsandfumes from cleaning chemicals, cleaning agentsandhazardous chemicals.

Work requires the use ofpotentially hazardousmachinery andequipment.

The Custodian classification salary range is currently R-22.

Starting salary: Step 1 $4031.25to Step 3 $4444.45 per month, based on training and experience.

Salary range: Step 1 $4031.25 to Step 6 $5145.01 per month.
