Position: Control Systems Engineer III

The Control Systems Engineer III develops, reviews, and executes control system designs. This role includes configuration, testing, and troubleshooting control systems to meet code, contract, and schedule requirements, with limited supervision. The engineer also contributes to design
improvements and technical solutions across projects.
The position focuses primarily on control systems for large-frame industrial gas turbines
in simple- and combined-cycle plants, with potential involvement in additional plant
control systems. Responsibilities also include customer training and providing remote
and on-site technical support.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and review control system concepts; support development and implementation of new systems.
- Maintain, modify, and troubleshoot control systems across hardware and software platforms.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, purchasing,
sales/marketing) to support project execution.
- Interface with clients, suppliers, contractors, PMs, and authorities in cost- and
schedule-driven environments.
- Provide technical oversight for vendor selection, bid evaluations, and supplier
performance.
- Ensure compliance with applicable H&S regulations and quality standards.
- Develop and review control system specifications and RFQs.
- Configure Mitsubishi Control System HMI and databases.
- Execute control panel design, documentation, fabrication support, and standards
compliance with limited supervision.
- Develop, test, and troubleshoot control logic and HMI applications.
- Support manufacturing activities, including inspections and FATs.
- Resolve customer comments on drawings and documentation.
- Support Field Operations with installation, integration, commissioning, and
troubleshooting; perform RCA and implement solutions.
- Prepare and submit accurate technical and field reports.
- Deliver classroom and OJT training on Mitsubishi Control Systems.
- Travel overnight (~10%) by land and/or air.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering with 6+ years related experience, or equivalent combination,
in control disciplines such as APC, DCS, PLC, OPC/Modbus, and SCADA for power plant
applications.
- Strong working knowledge of industrial networking (TCP/IP, subnets, managed switches, firewalls, VLANs, segmentation) with ability to configure and troubleshoot control networks independently.
- Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC platforms (e.g., DIASYS Netmation, Ovation, DeltaV, ABB 800xA, Siemens T3000, or equivalent), including configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Practical experience with Modbus (RTU/TCP), OPC DA/UA, and time sync protocols (NTP/PTP).
- Participation in FAT and SAT, including test execution, documentation, and issue resolution.
- Ability to read and apply electrical and control schematics (power, control, I/O) for troubleshooting and design validation.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards: UL 508A, NFPA 70/79, CSA
- C22.2 / SPE-1000, IEC 60204-1, NEMA.
- Experience with control system and panel design, including equipment selection, layout, I/O assignment, wiring, grounding, and industrial power distribution.
- Working knowledge of electrical design tools such as EPLAN (Electric P8/Pro
- Panel), AutoCAD Electrical, SOLIDWORKS Electrical, or equivalent.
- Understanding of power plant processes, including gas turbine and combined cycle operations.
- Experience implementing and troubleshooting control logic for Gas Turbine,
- Combined Cycle, and BOP systems, using FBD, analog loops, and digital controls.
- Ability to develop and interpret control narratives, SAMA diagrams, Cause &
- Effect matrices, and interlock logic.
- Familiarity with version control, change management, and documentation of
logic changes.
- Experience with HMI development and awareness of ISA-101 High-
- Performance HMI concepts.
- Exposure to alarm management principles (ISA-18.2).
- Awareness of ICS cybersecurity standards including NERC CIP and IEC 62443.
