Position: Controls Engineer

Duration: 12 month contract (possible extensions/perm)

Location: Davison, MI

Pay Rate: $40-48/hr based on experience

Shifts:

1st: 7AM-3PM

2nd: 3:30PM-12AM

3rd: 11:30PM-7AM

Weekends: 2 on 1 off Saturdays, occasional Sundays

**WILL START ON 1st SHIFT AND MOVE TO 2nd SHIFT MID OCTOBER**


Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of experience working as a Controls Engineer in an automotive manufacturing environment
  • Hands‑on experience with SCADA system integration
  • Proven experience programming Fanuc robots
  • Project experience with PLCs and HMIs - Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell and Siemens platforms


Plusses:

  • Automotive conveyor systems experience (e.g., body shop or general assembly conveyance)
  • Machine vision experience


Job Summary:

This role is responsible for supporting and managing plant controls systems within an automotive manufacturing environment. The Controls Engineer leads electrical and controls projects involving PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and SCADA integration while supporting equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives. They provide technical guidance to skilled trades and engineering teams, troubleshoot equipment and conveyor issues, and support new model and process changes. This position also plays a key role in safety, quality, cost control, and long‑term maintenance of plant controls systems.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage controls-related electrical projects including installation of new or replacement equipment, continuous improvement initiatives, and periodic repair and refurbishment
  • Participate in functional area plant meetings to represent Manufacturing Engineering and assist in improving the plant’s performance
  • Provide technical support, direction, and training to tech support and skilled trades personnel within the department
  • Investigate conveyor and equipment problems to provide technical input for problem resolution
  • Develop cost estimates, investment forecasts, business cases, appropriation requests, and plans for other minor project activity
  • Coordinate with departmental tech support engineers and Headquarters Vehicle Systems engineers on new model process and equipment planning, including model changes, throughput improvements, sourcing, etc.
  • Assist in the development of a project support plan between the plant, headquarters, and contractor resources (including paragraph 183 contractual requirements)
  • Maintain proficiency in his/her field
  • Support GMS and Quality Network Planned Maintenance initiatives
  • Utilize statistical methods for continuous improvement of plant controls systems
  • Enforce safe work practices as the highest priority and implement objectives for improved ergonomics, health/safety, and housekeeping
  • Maintain good working relationships with peers, hourly employees, union, management, supplier community, and interface with support functions outside the plant as required
  • Develop project planning timetables and report progress as required
  • Utilize best practices and common systems to improve competitiveness and reduce waste
  • Provide input into the establishment of Manufacturing Engineering plant budget, NPP funding forecasts, and appropriation request estimates
  • Ensure long term, cost effective maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Manage projects to minimize investment cost while providing conveyors, equipment, and facilities that require a minimum operating cost (with maximum throughput, energy efficiency, etc.)
