Consultant (Commercial Data)

JMAN Group
New York, NY

Company Description

JMAN Group is a fast-growing data engineering and data science consultancy. We partner primarily with Private Equity Funds and their portfolio companies to create commercial value through data and artificial intelligence. We also work with growth businesses, large corporates, and multinationals.

Headquartered in London with offices in New York, London, and Chennai, our team of 450+ combines expertise across strategy consulting, data science, and software engineering. Since our founding in 2019 by Anush Newman (CEO) and Leo Valan (CTO), we have scaled rapidly, supported by a minority investment from Baird Capital in 2023.

Position

The primary focus of all our Consultants is to deliver high caliber commercial & technical solutions for our clients across our 4 core solutions: Core Reporting, Value Creation, Prep for Exit and Data Due Diligence.

As a Consultant at JMAN, you will take ownership of high impact workstreams, partnering directly with clients to solve complex, commercially critical problems. You will be expected to operate with autonomy, delivering rigorous analysis and translating it into actionable recommendations that drive measurable outcomes.

From the outset, you will work closely with senior stakeholders, contribute to strategic decisions, and play a meaningful role in building our US business. Our apprenticeship model, combined with structured training and coaching, is designed to accelerate your progression into a broader leadership role.

This role is suited to individuals who thrive in high-performance environments, are intellectually curious, and are motivated by responsibility, pace, and impact.

Key responsibilities for Consultants include:

  • Lead and deliver client workstreams end-to-end, across both structured and exploratory engagements
  • Own day-to-day execution, ensuring analytical rigor, quality of outputs, and delivery against timelines
  • Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable recommendations with tangible business impact
  • Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders, including regular interaction with senior decision-makers
  • Structure ambiguous problems and drive them to resolution using hypothesis-led thinking
  • Coordinate with global delivery teams to ensure consistent, high-quality outputs across regions
  • Develop high-quality materials and presentations that influence client decisions
  • Contribute to firm-building initiatives, supporting the growth and evolution of JMAN
  • Support and develop junior team members through coaching and informal leadership
  • Take ownership of your professional development through continuous learning and feedback

Requirements:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • 2-4 years relevant experience, ideally in consulting/professional services, but we’d also be interested if you’ve built strong consulting-style skills in places like investment banking, private equity, or a fast-paced start-up.
  • Demonstrated experience owning workstreams or leading significant components of projects
  • Track record of high performance and progression
  • Strong analytical and structured problem-solving ability
  • Confidence working with data and translating analysis into commercial insight
  • Clear commercial judgment and ability to link recommendations to business outcomes
  • Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience influencing stakeholders
  • Ability to operate effectively in lean teams, taking ownership and initiative
  • Experience with, or strong interest in developing capabilities in: Excel and PowerPoint, Tableau or Power BI, SQL, Python, or Alteryx

Beneficial if you have:

  • A grounding in data science or AI.
  • Experience working in a global delivery model.
  • Foreign language skills (German, French or Spanish in particular)

How to thrive at JMAN:

  • Operate with ownership and accountability in fast‑paced environments.
  • Comfortable leading client conversations — including the tough ones — and keeping delivery on track in fast‑paced environments.
  • A problem‑solver at heart, thinking from first principles and applying a pragmatic, solutions‑focused approach.
  • Proactive and impact‑driven, going above and beyond and confidently challenging thinking or suggesting change when it improves outcomes.
  • A strong communicator — producing clear, compelling written work, speaking with confidence, listening actively, and adapting your style to senior stakeholders.
  • A self‑starter who operates effectively both independently and within teams, taking clear ownership and accountability for outcomes.
  • Thrives under pressure, seeing complexity and challenge as opportunities to add value.
  • Highly self‑aware, taking ownership of personal development and continuously raising the bar for yourself and others.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity in an agile environment, bringing clarity, structure, and momentum where it’s needed.
