Commercial Law Attorney – Chicago

A mid-sized law firm in Chicago is seeking a commercial law attorney with 4-6 years of experience to join its practice. This role is focused on commercial agreements, including distribution and supply arrangements, sales agreements, licensing and IP-related matters, and

technology agreements. The firm offers a high-quality lifestyle (a 1700 billable-hour requirement) and a strong international practice.


This is a compelling opportunity for attorneys who enjoy ongoing, business-oriented counseling with longstanding clients and want to work closely with clients on day-to-day commercial and operational issues.


Attorneys with law firm or in-house experience are encouraged to apply. The role is especially well-suited for those who have worked closely with business teams on commercial and technology agreements, including attorneys considering a transition from in-house to a law firm environment.


Role Focus:

This attorney will work on a range of commercial matters, including:

  • Structuring and negotiating distribution, supply, and vendor agreements
  • Advising on sales transactions and related UCC matters (Articles 2 and 9)
  • Negotiating licensing and IP-related agreements
  • Drafting and negotiating technology and other commercial agreements
  • Supporting clients on ongoing commercial and operational legal needs
  • Additional exposure may include areas such as import/export compliance, unfair trade practices, and data privacy.


Position Highlights:

Qualifications:

  • 4–6 years of experience with commercial agreements; familiarity with distribution, sales, and licensing agreements preferred
  • Experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with business stakeholders
  • Admission to and good standing with a state bar; Illinois admission or eligibility to waive in required
