Job Description

We are looking for a Client Accountant with nonprofit and private foundation accounting experience who will work to provide high level service and support to both our clients and wealth management teams. As a valued member of the Firm’s Family Office Services Team, this role will directly support team members by processing the general client cash and accounting activity as well as support the Client Service Team with account related administration.

Responsibilities include preparing month-end and year-end closings and periodic financial reporting, coordinating bill payment with the Client Accounting Analyst, accounting for nonprofit organizations, private foundations, and related entities, reconciling investment and endowment accounts, tracking restricted and unrestricted funds, and maintaining accurate books and records. The ideal candidate will enjoy setting aggressive goals, thrive in a fast-moving environment and take ownership of delivering accurate, compliant and timely results.


Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain personal accounts and financial records for nonprofit organizations and private foundations
  • Prepare vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, grant documentation, financial reports and other records and review for accuracy
  • Request and document required approvals in a timely and professional manner for invoices, grant payments, and other disbursements in accordance with internal control policies
  • Ensure timely routing and review of invoices to accounts payable processing
  • Monitor client cash balance and ensure adequate liquidity for operating expenses, grants, and program disbursements
  • Record and verify nonprofit, trust, and foundation transactions, including contributions received, grants awarded, program expenses, and asset transfers
  • Perform regular balance sheet reconciliations and fund-level reconciliations based on client or organizational requirements
  • Consistently meet processing, reporting and regulatory deadlines
  • Reconcile aggregated data to general ledgers, bank statements and other accounts
  • Reconcile investment and endowment statements and record related activity in the general ledger
  • Support Client payroll preparation and reporting
  • Support the preparation of client tax reports including preparation of 1099s, W-2s, etc.
  • Respond to auditor, board, donor, and regulatory information requests, prepare financial reports, and support special projects
  • Establish, organize and maintain accurate client and organizational accounting files in compliance with record-retention policies


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years relevant accounting experience, including nonprofit and/or private foundation accounting
  • Knowledge and experience in GAAP and FASB standards applicable to nonprofit organizations and private foundations
  • Knowledge and experience in Form 990/990-PF
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully at all times with clients, colleagues, and external partners
  • Consistently demonstrates professionalism, discretion, and sound judgement in all interactions
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong self-review and quality-control skills
  • Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency and accountability
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel


Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, and education. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus. The range for this role is $75,000 - 90,000.
