About Earth

At Earth, we believe how we say farewell matters. Our mission is to transform the end-of-life experience by offering families a beautiful, sustainable alternative to cremation and burial. Instead of traditional methods that harm the environment, our gentle, natural process transforms the body into nutrient-rich soil in just 45 days, returning life to the earth and leaving a meaningful legacy.

Earth is the national leader in soil transformation, backed by major investors, and growing fast.

That's where you come in. We're looking for a seasoned operator to be the right hand to our CRO/Head of Product: someone who can own the company's hardest cross-functional problems end-to-end, move fast in ambiguity, and stand in for an executive when it counts.

The Role

As Chief of Staff, you'll be the right hand to our CRO/Head of Product: a senior operator who owns outcomes, not tasks. Earth is a ~100-person company operating across multiple states and scaling quickly. You'll sit at the intersection of Sales, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Product, and Engineering, and your core job is to drive the company's highest-priority initiatives and keep them moving across teams.

This is not a coordinator or assistant role. You'll be handed the messiest, most cross-functional problems in the business and own them end-to-end: figure out what needs to happen, line up the people, and drive it across the finish line without waiting for direction.

As we grow and regionalize, the connective tissue between teams matters more, not less. A lot of our highest-leverage work spans Product, GTM, and Ops and doesn't fit neatly under any one team. That work is yours.

The right person is a seasoned operator who pairs executive judgment with a bias toward action. You'll move from shaping a state-launch strategy, to standing in on a partner relationship, to pressure-testing a business review, often before lunch.

This role is based at our HQ in San Francisco. Our SF team is hybrid and typically works from our office in North FiDi / Jackson Square 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities

Own the company's top initiatives, end-to-end

  • Own 2-3 of the company's highest-priority initiatives end-to-end: scoped to outcomes, accountable for delivery across GTM and Product.
  • Be the connective tissue on work that spans teams. Example: a licensing or compliance change ripples into product builds, website copy, and what sales can sell. You keep all of it aligned and moving.
  • Stand up the process and operating cadence for new 0-to-1 efforts before they have a permanent owner: run the tracker, drive the follow-through, hand off a clean system.
  • Drive action items out of leadership and cross-functional meetings to resolution. You're the forcing function that turns decisions into shipped outcomes.
  • Prepare the agendas, pre-reads, and briefing docs that make executive and leadership meetings sharp and decision-ready.

Be the CRO's extension and strategic partner

  • Represent the CRO/Head of Product in meetings and decisions. You'll be in the room when they can't be, with the judgment to make the call and the discretion to know when to escalate.
  • Own accountability across key external relationships: partners, in-person sales and speaking opportunities, and emerging brand and media partnerships, so nothing high-value slips through the cracks.
  • Turn ambiguous, high-stakes problems into a plan: scope the question, pull the data, frame the options, and drive to a recommendation.
  • Build the business reviews and exec reporting that tell leadership the truth about the business: pull the CRM/BI data, find the story, and make it decision-ready on a recurring cadence.

Keep the operation running

  • Be the operational glue that keeps everything moving: vendor admin, SaaS renewals, invoice and expense routing, and meeting logistics. You’re equally comfortable shaping strategy and rolling up your sleeves to execute.

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years in management consulting, startup operations, a prior Chief of Staff seat, or a comparable operating role. This is a senior operator role, not an entry point.
  • A track record of owning ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end and driving them to outcomes without hand-holding.
  • AI builder, not just AI user. You've automated a workflow, built tools, and used AI to ship something that saved real time.
  • Exceptional written communication and executive judgment. You'll draft and decide on behalf of senior leadership, and represent the office to partners and the team.
  • Highly organized: able to hold a dozen+ workstreams simultaneously and still know which three matter most this week.
  • Data-literate. Comfortable pulling and interpreting data in Google Sheets, CRM (we use Hubspot), and BI tools (we use Looker) to drive decisions.
  • High agency, low ego, sound judgment: equally credible standing in for an exec in a partner meeting and rolling up your sleeves to unblock the team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional judgment. You'll interact with external partners, vendors, and executives regularly.
  • Genuine interest in Earth's mission and the death care industry's transformation.

Benefits

  • Base salary plus equity (stock options), giving you ownership in the long-term success of Earth
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Sabbatical after 4 years
  • An opportunity to be a part of a vibrant and energized team working to transform the death care industry
