Nicoll Black Altenbrun & Feig is a full-service law firm providing skilled representation to clients throughout the U.S. and around the world. Our primary areas of practice are: (1) admiralty and maritime law, and (2) insurance coverage for the domestic and London markets. Our attorneys have broad practices that also involve commercial litigation, intellectual property, casualty response, and transactions (e.g., vessel sales, corporate formation).
We are looking for associate attorneys with 2 - 8 years’ experience for hybrid positions in our San Francisco and Seattle offices. The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $200,000, depending on experience and qualifications. We have an extremely reasonable annual hours requirements compared other private practice firms, and offer very competitive compensation including 401(k) matching. As long as your are meeting or exceeding your targets and performing excellent work, we are respectful of your work / life balance. We hire people expecting that they will ultimately be our partners, and have very little turnover. We want to help you grow into the professional you want to be.
Qualifications:
Active membership in good standing with the California, Washington and / or Hawai’i Bars (other bar memberships a plus);
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills;
The ability to manage cases independently and work collaboratively with a team; and
A desire for a professional career, not just a job.
Responsibilities:
Your, and our, primary responsibility is to help our clients solve their problems. This covers numerous more specific tasks, such as:
Gather, review and analyze relevant documents, including insurance policies, agency findings, vessel logs, navigation charts, expert and scientific reports, and due diligence documents;
Draft and file pleadings, motions and briefs;
Conduct legal research and participate in written discovery;
Take and defend depositions;
Select and work with expert witnesses;
Participate in settlement negotiations and mediations.
Appear for court hearings and trials.
