The Encompass Group is partnering with a growing interior architecture and design firm in Laguna Beach, California, to find a Project Designer / Drafter to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys a combination of fieldwork, drafting, and project coordination. The ideal candidate will have experience surveying existing conditions, developing technical drawings, and supporting commercial interior design projects from concept through documentation.


This role offers the opportunity to work on retail and commercial interior projects throughout the United States while collaborating closely with designers, consultants, clients, and municipal agencies.


Position Responsibilities

As a Project Designer / Drafter, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing detailed field surveys and documenting existing conditions for commercial interior projects.
  • Creating accurate AutoCAD drawings, floor plans, and as-built documentation.
  • Maintaining exceptional attention to detail and organization throughout all phases of project work.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, internal team members, consultants, contractors, and government officials.
  • Assisting with project documentation, permit submissions, and plan check processes.
  • Coordinating drawing revisions and maintaining project records.
  • Supporting project teams through design development and construction documentation phases.
  • Traveling regularly throughout the United States to conduct site surveys and gather field information.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience within retail or commercial interior design environments.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
  • Experience with SketchUp and Revit is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of architectural and interior design concepts, practices, and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of commercial building codes and Title 24 requirements.
  • Experience working with city submittals and plan review processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel throughout the United States.
