Job Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Drafter to create 2D layouts, 3D concepts, and proposal drawings that bridge technical engineering solutions and customer needs. Working closely with Sales Managers, this role supports a fast-paced sales environment by clearly visualizing equipment layouts, improving proposal effectiveness, and helping drive timely and successful project awards.

This position plays an important role in translating concepts into clear technical drawings that support customer proposals and ensure solutions are viable for manufacturing.


Responsibilities

  • Sales Support Design: Create preliminary equipment layouts, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and system flow diagrams to support active sales proposals.
  • Concept Visualization: Translate rough sketches or verbal scope from Sales Managers into clear and accurate technical drawings for customer presentations.
  • Site Integration: Review customer building drawings (AutoCAD, PDF, or 3D files) to ensure equipment fits within spatial constraints and facility layouts.
  • Revision Management: Update drawings quickly based on customer feedback and scope changes during the proposal and negotiation process.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a liaison between the Sales and Engineering teams to ensure proposed concepts are practical and manufacturable.
  • Problem Solving: Identify design challenges and recommend practical solutions while following established procedures.
  • Adaptability: Support evolving business needs, project timelines, and customer requirements.


Qualifications

  • Experience: 2+ years of drafting or design experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial equipment environment.
  • Software Skills: Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD 2D required; experience with Inventor is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read architectural drawings and understand industrial equipment layouts and system flows.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to balance speed and accuracy in a fast-paced sales environment with tight deadlines.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Work Enviroment

  • Otay Mesa location: 6795 Calle De Linea, San Diego, CA 92154
  • Occasional visits to the manufacturing floor may be required to support project needs
  • Some tasks may require light physical activity beyond typical office conditions

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, video, and in-person
  • Ability to stand, walk, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs

Pay Range

$29 – $32 per hour, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications

This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable laws
