Application Engineer

Job Description:

• Insight Global is seeking an Applications Engineer to support a leading manufacturer of custom power packaging solutions. This individual will own the front-end technical development and customer submittal process for highly customized, walk-in diesel generator enclosure projects. Sitting at the intersection of sales, engineering, and manufacturing, this role translates complex customer requirements and code-driven specifications into clear, accurate submittal packages that establish the technical foundation for successful project execution. The ideal candidate enjoys detail-driven work, thrives in a manufacturing environment, and takes pride in setting projects up for smooth approvals and on-time delivery.

Must-Haves:

• Experience as an Applications Engineer, Sales Engineer, or Project Engineer supporting custom engineered products
• Strong ability to interpret RFQs, customer specifications, and drawings
• Experience creating technical submittal packages for customer/EOR approval
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to clearly define scope, assumptions, and exclusions
• Detail-oriented and highly organized; able to manage multiple submittals at once
• Experience working in or closely with a manufacturing environment

Plusses:

• Working knowledge of diesel generator systems or power generation equipment
• Experience with industrial enclosures, shelters, or containerized systems
• Equipment packaging experience (skids, modules, OEM assemblies)
• HVAC, cooling, or ventilation systems integration
• Structural frames supporting mechanical/electrical components
• Electrical systems knowledge
• Experience with code-driven designs and compliance documentation
• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering

Day-to-Day:

• Review customer RFQs, specs, and drawings for custom generator enclosure projects
• Develop complete customer submittal packages, including:
• General arrangement and layout drawings
• Equipment and system descriptions
• Code and compliance narratives
• Preliminary BOMs and major component selections
• Create, revise, and maintain drawings using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
• Collaborate with sales, PMs, engineering, and manufacturing to ensure solutions are buildable
• Define and document technical scope to minimize downstream changes
• Coordinate submittal revisions and responses during the approval cycle
• Identify technical risks or gaps early and drive resolution
• Support handoff from approved submittals into detailed design and production
• Maintain internal standards for submittal quality and document control
• Spend time on the manufacturing floor as needed (PPE required)
