Job Description
The Accounting Clerk will be responsible for processing AP and AR transactions with timeliness and accuracy, while supporting the accounting department with daily functions and clerical tasks.
This is an in-office, part-time position (up to 30 hours per week), scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The schedule will be set within these hours, with some flexibility to align with availability.
Responsibilities include:
- AP/AR Processing – Process accounts payable and receivable activities, including invoice verification, data entry, and application of customer payments.
- Payment Processing – Coordinate with the Controller to prepare and issue payments in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
- Customer Service – Communicate with vendors, customers, and internal departments to resolve payment, invoice, or account discrepancies.
- Reconciliation – Reconcile vendor and customer statements and investigate outstanding items.
- Recordkeeping – Maintain organized and accurate financial records and documentation.
- Reporting & Aging – Generate basic AP/AR reports, track account aging, and assist with collections as needed.
- Compliance – Ensure adherence to company procedures and financial controls.
- Department Support – Provide backup support for other departmental functions and assist with general clerical duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education in accounting is a plus.
- Proven experience in an Accounting Clerk or Accounts Payable role (or similar).
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles, including credit and debit functions.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; Excel is required (minimum 2 years of recent use).
- Experience working with accounting software and internal database systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, consistent with varying volumes of data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Customer service experience with the ability to interact professionally with vendors and internal personnel.
- Strong organization and time-management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive, team-oriented attitude with a desire to learn and expand existing skill sets.
