POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Waste & Recycling Account Lead to join our team. This position is a key support role that ensures the efficient execution of strategies while overseeing day-to-day communication between the account manager and support team. The Waste & Recycling Account Lead will work closely with the Waste Account Manager, acting as a liaison between the Account Manager and the Waste Account team to ensure seamless communication and alignment with client objectives. This role involves overseeing the preparation of detailed reports, managing daily waste & recycling operations, and addressing any client or operational issues that arise. The Waste & Recycling Account Lead is responsible for maintaining high levels of accuracy and efficiency across all account activities, ensuring that client needs are met while supporting the overall goals of the business. This position is focused on operational excellence and team leadership within the Waste & Recycling business unit.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Waste & Recycling Account Lead works alongside our Account and Sr. Account Management team, working on delegated projects, supporting the ongoing optimization initiatives for our customers and exercising comfortability when interacting with stakeholders.

Liaison between Account Manager and Waste & Recycling Account Team:
The Waste & Recycling Account Lead facilitates the flow of critical information between the Account Manager and internal team, ensuring alignment on client sustainability goals, reporting requirements, and project scope. The Lead proactively identifies risks, inefficiencies, or gaps in waste programs and works cross-functionally to implement solutions that keep initiatives on track.
Lead Client and Supplier Calls & Act as Account Manager Backup:
Lead routine client and vendor calls related to waste operations, sustainability initiatives, and service performance. Serve as the primary backup to the Account Manager for client-facing communication when needed, ensuring continuity, responsiveness, and a high level of professionalism. Maintain clear communication while keeping leadership informed of key updates, risks, and action items.
Oversee Documentation & Validate Reporting Accuracy:
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all waste and recycling data, including standardized volume reporting, diversion metrics, and sustainability KPIs. Audit reports prepared by Account Representatives to confirm completeness, consistency, and alignment with client objectives before final delivery.
Develop Strategic Relationships with High-Value Clients:
Act as a secondary point of contact for key clients and vendors, supporting long-term account growth, retention, and satisfaction. Build trust by demonstrating expertise in waste stream management, sustainability initiatives, and operational execution.
Implement Waste & Recycling Program Strategies:
Support execution of client-specific waste and recycling strategies, including landfill diversion, recycling improvements, and sustainability program rollouts. Ensure all initiatives align with client goals and broader organizational objectives.
Drive Complex Negotiations and Contract Management:
Lead negotiations for waste and recycling services, including hauler agreements, contract renewals, and large-scale program implementations. Secure favorable terms while maintaining service quality and compliance with client expectations.
Provide Oversight of Waste Operations and Performance:
Monitor service levels, vendor performance, cost trends, and operational efficiency across waste streams. Ensure adherence to budgets, timelines, and service standards while resolving complex service or operational challenges.
Champion Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with internal teams (IT, finance, operations) to support data integrity, reporting enhancements, and program execution. Ensure seamless coordination across departments to deliver consistent and scalable waste management solutions.
Advanced Financial Analysis and Cost Optimization:
Conduct high-level financial analysis of waste programs, identifying cost savings opportunities, billing discrepancies, and ROI improvements. Support pricing strategies and cost modeling tied to sustainability and operational efficiencies.
Lead Waste Stream Optimization Projects:
Identify inefficiencies in container utilization, service frequency, and material handling. Lead optimization efforts to improve diversion rates, reduce costs, and enhance operational performance. Support larger strategic initiatives as directed by the Account Manager.
Support New Client Onboarding:
Assist in onboarding new waste and recycling clients by coordinating program setup, validating data inputs, and establishing baseline reporting. Help clients understand their waste streams, reporting structure, and optimization opportunities, setting the foundation for long-term success.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Waste & Recycling / Sustainability Expertise (preferred, not required)
Strong understanding of waste streams, diversion strategies, recycling programs, and sustainability initiatives (e.g., landfill diversion, circular economy concepts, ESG reporting fundamentals).
Data Analysis & Reporting
Advanced ability to analyze large datasets, validate data accuracy, and translate waste and volume data into actionable insights. Experience with standardized reporting, KPI tracking, and performance metrics.
Financial & Cost Optimization Skills
Proven ability to identify cost savings opportunities, analyze vendor pricing, and support financial forecasting. Strong attention to detail in billing validation and ROI analysis.
Project Management
Ability to manage multiple client initiatives simultaneously, including sustainability projects, onboarding, and optimization efforts. Strong organizational skills with a focus on execution and follow-through.
Vendor & Contract Management
Experience working with third-party vendors (e.g., waste haulers), including performance oversight, issue resolution, and contract negotiations.
Problem Solving & Critical Thinking
Ability to identify inefficiencies in waste programs (container sizing, service frequency, contamination, etc.) and develop practical, data-driven solutions.
Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including leading client calls, presenting insights, and coordinating across internal teams.
Technical Proficiency
Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, data analysis, audits). Experience with reporting tools, data visualization platforms, or waste management systems is a plus.
Attention to Detail & Accountability
High level of accuracy in reporting, documentation, and financial analysis, with a strong sense of ownership over deliverables.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, supply chain, Business, Statistics, Finance or related field, equivalent training, education and experience

6 months in-office requirement upon hire
After 6-month period:
· 3 days/week
· Team meetings 1x/month
· One-on-ones with manager1x/week for first 6 months OR One-on-ones with manager1x/month after 6 months
