About UsCadence Homes Tx is a growing private homebuilder in the Dallas‑Fort Worth area. We currently deliver approximately 150 homes per year and are planning to scale to 500 homes/year over the next three years. We have a General Contractor division as well as build to rent and build to sell division to maintain. Role OverviewWe are seeking a strategic finance leader who can not only manage day‑to‑day financial operations but also help drive the financial strategy as we scale. This person will partner closely with the COO and President to build out scalable systems, ensure cost control, improve profitability per home, and support expansion into new communities. You must understand homebuilding economics, land acquisition, construction cost dynamics, and residential real estate cycles.
Key Responsibilities- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for current operations and growth trajectory toward 500 units/year and beyond.
- Build and maintain financial models and scenario analyses (e.g. variable lot starts, construction cost inflation, cycle times, land acquisition) to support decision‑making.
- Oversee cost of land, lot development, construction, sales, and other cost centers; continuously monitor margin per unit and areas for cost leverage.
- Manage cash flow / working capital to ensure liquidity through cyclical headwinds (materials, labor delays, interest rates, etc.).
- Supervise and grow the finance / accounting team (accounting, job costing / project accounting, purchasing, AR / AP).
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting: monthly, quarterly, annual; including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, variances versus budget.
- Oversee accounting close process; maintain adequate internal controls, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Manage relationships with external parties: banks, lenders, auditors, tax advisors, insurance, etc.
- Participate in land acquisition review, feasibility studies, entitlement costs and approvals; help evaluate which land purchases will support our profitability and growth plan.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with construction, operations, sales, procurement to align financial strategy with building schedules, lot starts, and supply chain.
- Seek and implement process automation, systems implementation / upgrades to improve visibility, efficiency, and scalability as the volume of units increases significantly.
- Process and complete payroll including sales commission for entire company.
Qualifications & ExperienceRequired:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA, MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
- At least 6-12 years of progressive experience in finance / accounting leadership. Preferably with several years in residential construction / homebuilding or real estate development.
- Strong understanding of homebuilding economics: cost per lot, construction cycle times, land entitlement, cost inflation, margin drivers.
- Experience with job costing / project accounting in homebuilding or related field.
- Proven experience in forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, variance analysis, cash flow management.
- Excellent communication skills: able to translate financial data to non‑finance leaders; strong presentation skills.
- Ability to build systems, processes, and controls that can scale as the company grows.
Preferred:
- Experience growing a builder from 200 units to 500+ units, or similar scale growth.
- Hands‑on experience with land acquisition, entitlement, lot starts planning.
- Experience with ERP or robust financial / construction software systems common in homebuilding.
- Strong relationships with lenders, tax / audit firms, maybe knowledge of local DFW land & construction market.
