Job Description:

This is a full-time position responsible for teaching Upper School Spanish in grades 9–12 within the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The successful candidate will teach a range of Spanish courses, including language acquisition.

Spanish is part of the World Languages Department, which includes Spanish, French, and Mandarin. The department operates within a collaborative model where teachers work together to design units, assessments, and learning experiences that are aligned both vertically and within the IB framework. The role requires a strong commitment to collaboration, flexibility, and a willingness to contribute to ongoing curriculum development and professional dialogue.

The Upper School consists of approximately 390 students and operates on an 85-minute block schedule across a two-day cycle. Lausanne faculty are expected to be active participants in the life of the school, contributing both inside and outside of the classroom.

Qualifications:

• Native or near-native fluency in Spanish with a strong understanding of Spanish-speaking cultures
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in French, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably at the high school level, in an international or bilingual environment
• Experience teaching language acquisition and/or literature using authentic materials and culturally contextualized content
• Experience with the International Baccalaureate (MYP and/or DP) or similar inquiry-based curriculum is highly desirable
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team-teaching model and contribute positively to shared planning and decision-making
• Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and strategies to support a range of learners
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Duties:

• Teach five (85 minute) periods per two-day cycle; prep periods will be provided
• Develop and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP frameworks
• Collaborate closely with World Languages colleagues to ensure vertical alignment of curriculum and consistency of student experience
• Participate in team planning to design units, assessments, and common expectations across courses
• Incorporate authentic Spanish-speaking perspectives, texts, and current events to promote cultural understanding and global awareness
• Design and assess a range of formative and summative assessments, providing timely and meaningful feedback
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and communicate effectively with students and families
• Work collaboratively across disciplines to create meaningful interdisciplinary learning experiences
• Support the development of students’ language proficiency, intercultural understanding, and communication skills
• Serve as a grade-level advisor to approximately 8–10 students, supporting their academic and social-emotional development
• Sponsor clubs or activities (e.g., Spanish Club) and support student life and events within the school community
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
• Perform additional duties as required
