Position Summary

The goal of the Bryn Mawr School mathematics curriculum is to develop in our students an understanding and love of mathematics, with a vision for its importance and relevance in our increasingly technologically sophisticated world. Our curriculum focuses on understanding mathematical concepts and applying mathematical skills to the logical and critical thinking processes involved in problem solving and real-life situations. Through exploring ideas both with and without the aid of various technologies, students gain an insight into the historical foundations of mathematics and the excitement of mathematical discovery. We are searching for an excellent communicator who is comfortable using a variety of pedagogical strategies and enjoys working creatively and collaboratively to develop and plan curricula.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach four sections of mathematics (typically between 15-18 students)
  • Serve as an advisor for a group of students (typically between 10 - 12 students)
  • Provide a safe, predictable, and supportive environment for all students in all settings
  • Serve on departmental, divisional and advisory faculty teams.
  • Implement methods and practices to ensure that lessons engage students and allow them to build critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Recognize the relationship between social-emotional learning and academic performance, and aspire toward developing and teaching the whole child.
  • Provide assessments and feedback that help students build appropriate skills and content mastery
  • Authentically engage in annual self-reflection and goal-setting; demonstrate progress toward goals; is open and responsive to feedback from students, parents, colleagues, and administrators to demonstrate a growth mindset

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mathematics, Education or related field
  • 3-5 years teaching experience
  • Ability to teach all levels of the Upper School mathematics curriculum
  • Desire and ability to work with Upper School students with diverse backgrounds and levels of ability toward accomplishing their educational goals
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines; manage small and large groups of students in a classroom environment; and communicate effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
  • Willingness to support the life of the school community beyond classroom teaching/advising
  • Commitment to using conversation norms and constructive engagement at all times with students, caregivers, colleagues; speak positively about school and community members in all contexts

  • Bryn Mawr School follows a Faculty Salary Scale. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate's years of experience, education, skills, and job-related responsibilities.
