Orange County, CA

A leading boutique litigation firm is seeking a Trial Attorney to join its team. The firm focuses exclusively on high-stakes, complex disputes, often acting in matters where businesses, assets, and reputations are at risk.

The team is comprised of lawyers trained in top-tier firms and government roles, operating in a lean, trial-focused environment with meaningful responsibility from the outset.

The Firm

  • Premier California-based trial boutique specialising in complex business litigation
  • Known for handling “bet-the-company” disputes and difficult, high-risk matters
  • Significant jury trial experience (300+ trials across the team)

Practice spans:

  • Commercial litigation
  • Intellectual property
  • Securities
  • White collar
  • Insurance recovery / bad faith
  • Class actions and complex disputes

The firm approaches all work with trial in mind, using discovery and pre-trial strategy to build toward a courtroom outcome.

The Role

This is a hands-on trial position suited to a BigLaw-trained associate who wants:

  • Earlier and more consistent courtroom exposure
  • Direct involvement in trial strategy
  • Greater ownership of matters within a leaner, high-calibre team

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a central role in complex litigation matters from inception through trial
  • Develop and execute trial strategy alongside partners
  • Draft substantive filings, including dispositive motions, briefs, and pleadings
  • Conduct depositions, including key witnesses and experts
  • Prepare cases for trial, including evidence development and witness examination
  • Appear in court for hearings, motions, and trial proceedings
  • Engage directly with sophisticated clients on high-value disputes
  • Participate in mediations and settlement discussions in parallel with trial preparation

Candidate Profile

  • J.D. qualified and admitted to practice in the relevant jurisdiction
  • Experience at a top-tier law firm or recognised litigation team
  • Background in complex civil litigation (3+ years)
  • Exposure to trial work, hearings, or depositions
  • Strong academic and professional pedigree
  • Excellent advocacy, writing, and analytical skills
  • Interest in stepping into a more trial-oriented role

Why This Role

This opportunity is distinct from traditional large firm litigation:

  • Trial exposure: Work alongside lawyers who have vast trial experience
  • Responsibility: Lean team structure means earlier ownership of matters
  • Quality of work: Complex, high-stakes disputes against major firms and clients
  • Strategic focus: Work directed toward trial outcomes rather than process-driven litigation
