Job Description

The Travelling Install Technician plays a critical role in supporting large-scale material-handling upgrades at distribution centers across the country. This position focuses on installing and assembling mechanical components for conveyor chutes, carousels, and related material-handling systems, including new box assemblies that keep high-volume fulfillment operations running efficiently. The technician travels frequently to project sites and works closely with engineering teams, contractors, and onsite operations staff to ensure installations are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Install mechanical components on conveyor chutes, carousels, and other material-handling systems in distribution centers nationwide.
  • Assemble and securely mount new box systems used for routing, sorting, and packaging operations.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and installation instructions to guide installation work.
  • Use hand tools and power tools to perform precise mechanical installation tasks.
  • Perform mechanical adjustments, alignments, and quality checks to ensure proper system functionality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues that arise during installation and assist in resolving them promptly.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and site leadership to meet installation timelines and project milestones.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain compliance with site-specific safety and operational requirements.
  • Document installation progress, issues, and completed work in a clear and organized manner.
  • Travel extensively, up to 75–100% of the time, to distribution centers across the region or country.
  • Support new installation activities within large-scale distribution center and construction environments as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience installing mechanical components in industrial or distribution center environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and installation instructions accurately.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for mechanical installation work.
  • Experience working on new installations in large-scale distribution centers or similar construction environments.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform adjustments, alignments, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong commitment to following safety protocols and site-specific requirements.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, up to 75–100%, across the region or country.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience installing or maintaining conveyor systems, carousels, or other material-handling equipment.
  • Experience in construction, industrial installation, or mechanical assembly.
  • Troubleshooting skills for identifying and resolving mechanical issues during installation.
  • Certifications related to mechanical, industrial, or construction work are a plus but not required.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and onsite operations teams.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills to record installation progress and issues.

Work Environment

This role is based in large distribution center environments that operate high-volume material-handling systems. You will work primarily on-site at these facilities, often in active warehouse and construction areas where conveyor systems, carousels, and related equipment are installed and upgraded. The position requires extensive travel to different sites across the region or country. Typical hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime on Saturdays as needed. Work involves frequent use of hand tools and power tools, standing, walking, and working around industrial equipment in a fast-paced setting, while adhering to all site safety practices and procedures.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
