Job Title: Traveling Millwright/Mechanic

Job Description

Supports large-scale material-handling upgrades at distribution centers across the country. In this role, you install and assemble mechanical components for conveyor chutes, carousels, and box systems that keep high-volume fulfillment operations running efficiently. You travel frequently to project sites, work closely with engineering and operations teams, and ensure all installations meet quality, performance, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install mechanical components on conveyor chutes, carousels, and other material-handling systems at distribution centers nationwide.
  • Assemble, mount, and secure new box systems used for routing, sorting, and packaging operations.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and installation instructions to complete accurate installations.
  • Perform mechanical adjustments, alignments, and quality checks to ensure proper system function and reliability.
  • Use electrical knowledge, hand tools, and power tools to complete installation and basic troubleshooting tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and onsite leadership to meet installation timelines and project milestones.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues that arise during installation and coordinate solutions with the project team.
  • Follow all site-specific safety protocols and maintain compliance with facility requirements at all times.
  • Document installation progress, issues, changes, and completed work according to project standards.
  • Travel extensively (up to approximately 75–100%) to distribution centers across the region or country to support ongoing projects.
  • Support construction and new installation activities in large-scale distribution center environments as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience installing mechanical components in large-scale distribution centers or similar industrial environments.
  • Hands-on experience using hand tools and power tools for mechanical installation work.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and installation instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in assembly, alignment, and adjustment of mechanical systems.
  • Basic electrical knowledge related to installation work.
  • Troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems and installation-related issues.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively (up to approximately 75–100%) for project assignments.
  • Strong commitment to following safety protocols and site requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, contractors, and onsite operations staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience working on new installations for large-scale distribution centers or construction projects.
  • Experience working with conveyor systems, carousels, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Certifications related to mechanical, electrical, or industrial installation are a plus but not required.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, high-volume fulfillment or industrial environments.
  • Strong documentation skills for recording installation progress and issues.

Work Environment

You work primarily inside large distribution center facilities, including high-volume fulfillment and material-handling areas. The environment involves active construction and installation zones with conveyor systems, carousels, and related equipment in various stages of build-out. You regularly use hand tools and power tools and follow strict site safety protocols. Typical hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime on Saturdays as needed to meet project schedules. Extensive travel to distribution centers across the region or country is a core part of the role.

This is a Contract position based out of Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
