Term - Receptionist

The Receptionist is part of the School of Engineering Frist Center for Autism and Innovation at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for greeting visitors of the center. This position requires occupation of the front desk, greeting guests and answering general questions about the Frist Center and its mission.

The Receptionist will be available around the main desk of the center, greet visitors upon entry to the center, and answer basic questions about our facilities and mission (autism in the workplace). When additional help is needed, Receptionist will also introduce guests to relevant staff or provide contact info if that staff is unavailable. The Receptionist may assist other staffers in their efforts as-needed if available.

The Receptionist will work alongside other staffers at the center and man the desks when other staffers are out at the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation. They may be given opportunities to assist on other projects on an as-needed basis.

Note: A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be available at/near front desk when needed.
  • Greet unaccompanied visitors upon entering and inquire if any assistance or help is needed.
  • Answer general questions about the Frist Center and its mission.
  • Refer visitors to other staff when appropriate, for example if a visitor asks for further information beyond known basics.

 

Supervisory Relationships: This position does not have supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to associate director.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of autism is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation and its mission is strongly preferred.
