Temporary Laborer Water Plant

Responsibility for maintenance of the grounds at the Public Works Water Plant facilities. During inclement weather, performs general cleaning duties inside the water plant. Work is performed under the general direction of the Water Plant manager or other supervisory employee.

  • Maintains the grounds at the Public Works Water Plant facility as well as at pump stations and reservoirs.
  • Mows grass and sprays weeds; lays sod; waters and fertilizes grass and landscaped areas; applies pesticides.
  • Performs general cleaning duties.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in parks, building and grounds maintenance desired.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver’s license
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Working knowledge of landscaping and grounds keeping.
  • Working knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position does not supervise staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. Possess hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone or two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

The work schedule is a 40-hour workweek, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working. The position may be up to a six-month position.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
