The Role
We're building a marine coatings company for people who love coatings and ships, take pride in the work, and would rather be on a deck plate than behind a desk. Do the job right, move on to the next one.
We're looking for a Technical Sales Representative to cover the Gulf Coast territory — primarily Florida. This is a field-based position with significant travel to shipyards, drydocks, and customer facilities throughout the region.
You'll be the face of CPS in the territory. That means developing new business, managing customer relationships, and providing hands-on technical support — often in the same visit. If you've spent time in marine coatings and enjoy the mix of selling and solving problems on the deck plates, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
- Develop and grow marine coatings sales within the Gulf Coast territory
- Conduct vessel inspections and condition assessments at shipyards and drydocks
- Prepare coating specifications based on vessel conditions, service profiles, and customer requirements
- Recommend appropriate coating systems (primers, topcoats, antifoulings, tank coatings) based on technical data and field conditions
- Provide on-site technical support during coating application, including surface preparation guidance and quality assurance
- Build and maintain relationships with shipyard managers, vessel owners, superintendents, and procurement teams
- Track market activity, competitive pricing, and customer pipeline
- Represent CPS at industry events and customer meetings across the territory
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in marine coatings sales, technical service, or a combination of both
- Working knowledge of marine coating systems — epoxies, polyurethanes, antifoulings, tank coatings, and surface preparation standards (SSPC/NACE)
- Experience working in or with Gulf Coast shipyards, drydocks, or marine repair facilities
- Ability to read and interpret coating technical data sheets and develop specifications from them
- Comfortable conducting vessel inspections, measuring DFT, and assessing coating conditions in the field
- Strong relationships within the Gulf Coast marine industry are a significant plus
- AMPP (formerly NACE/SSPC) certification preferred but not required.
- Self-motivated and able to manage a territory independently with minimal supervision
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively within the territory
