About the Role We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our team. This is a client-facing role for someone who combines strong technical expertise (Level 2/3) with excellent customer service.

This is not a basic help desk position. We need a highly capable technical problem-solver who can take ownership, communicate clearly, and implement modern solutions across multiple client environments. You will support a wide range of private businesses, educational institutions, and municipal clients. The role has a strong focus on Microsoft environments, alongside Google Workspace and Apple/iPad management.

This role also includes hands-on involvement in infrastructure and cloud migrations, partnering with leadership to transition clients from on-premise environments to modern cloud-based solutions.

Location, Travel & Schedule

  • Full-time position based in the Chicagoland area.
  • Hybrid work with flexibility: Two days onsite at our Oak Brook, IL office.
  • Regular local travel to client sites across Northern Illinois.
  • Participation in a rotating weekly on-call schedule (approximately once every 6 weeks).

What You Will Do

  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues (Level 2/3 support).
  • Act as a technical mentor to Level 1 and 2 technicians, helping them learn and grow while guiding them through escalations.
  • Provide both remote and onsite troubleshooting across desktops, networks, and cloud systems.
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 environments, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
  • Manage endpoint deployments and security policies using Microsoft Intune.
  • Manage and support Google Workspace environments and Apple/iPad devices (especially within educational sectors).
  • Execute migrations from on-premise file servers to SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Assist with transitioning legacy client environments from local servers to cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Manage third-party vendor relationships on behalf of clients (ISPs, line-of-business application support, etc.) to drive issues to resolution.
  • Handle onboarding, offboarding, device setup, and complex deployments.
  • Document work clearly, maintain accurate ticket notes, and update client documentation.
  • Communicate technical solutions to clients in a professional, clear, and easy-to-understand way.
  • Assist with mid-to-large-sized IT projects, system improvements, and upgrades.

What We Are Looking For

  • 5+ years of progressive IT support and systems administration experience.
  • MSP experience is strongly preferred, including hands-on experience with Ninja RMM and standard PSA tools.
  • Strong technical experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, and Intune.
  • Working knowledge of Google Workspace and Apple device management.
  • Proven track record of executing file server migrations to SharePoint and OneDrive.
  • Hands-on experience supporting on-premise server environments and cloud solutions.
  • Excellent customer service skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Reliable transportation and a willingness to travel locally to client sites.

Nice to Have

  • Experience executing full infrastructure upgrades, including server OS and database migrations (e.g., SQL Server).
  • Experience preparing environments for and deploying modern AI tools like Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience supporting educational institutions, municipal environments, or law enforcement.
  • Experience with Apple Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms.
  • Experience deploying and managing cybersecurity tools or BDR (backup and disaster recovery) platforms.
  • Solid networking foundation (firewalls, switches, VLANs, and wireless APs).

What Success Looks Like

  • You take ownership of escalated issues and see them through to resolution.
  • Clients view you as a trusted advisor and enjoy working with you.
  • You communicate clearly, proactively, and professionally.
  • You maintain highly accurate, real-time time entries and documentation in Ninja RMM and our PSA.
  • You juggle multiple clients, tickets, and project priorities effectively.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
  • Health insurance.
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays.

Compliance & Employment Contingencies

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry IT equipment (up to 50 lbs), such as servers, UPS units, and network switches. The role requires the ability to stand, crouch, and navigate tight spaces (e.g., server closets and under desks) during onsite deployments.
  • Background Check: Due to the nature of our clients, including law enforcement and municipal government entities, offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a comprehensive background check and applicable clearance requirements.
