Job Title: Survey / Civil CAD Technician (Civil 3D)
Job Description

This full-time Survey / Civil CAD Technician role focuses on producing high-quality survey and civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D. The position primarily supports survey projects with additional involvement in civil and land development work. You will work closely with survey staff and engineers, independently manage multiple tasks, and contribute to accurate, well-organized deliverables for land development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Draft accurate boundary and topographic survey maps, existing conditions plans, exhibits, ALTA/NSPS surveys, and construction sketches using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Process and incorporate field survey data into Civil 3D drawings, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Create and manage COGO points, point groups, feature lines, and generate surfaces within Civil 3D.
  • Develop profiles, alignments, and cross sections to support survey and civil engineering projects.
  • Produce complete civil drawing sets from initial field and survey data through plotting and final deliverables for land development projects.
  • Maintain CAD standards, including layering, file structure, and drawing organization, to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Coordinate directly with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to clarify requirements and resolve design or drafting issues.
  • Revise plans based on QA/QC comments and feedback from agencies or clients, ensuring all updates are accurately reflected in the drawings.
  • Support land development projects for buildings, focusing on site development, grading, and civil design elements.
  • Manage multiple active tasks, prioritize work effectively, and meet project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Collaborate with team members, communicate progress, and proactively seek clarification when needed.
  • Continuously expand technical skills in Civil 3D, civil engineering drafting, and surveying practices.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Survey or Civil CAD Technician.
  • Strong, hands-on proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including the ability to independently create surfaces, 3D grading, alignments, profiles, pipe networks, and complete civil drawing sets from start to finish without relying on a professional engineer.
  • Proven experience supporting surveying and land development projects, specifically for building-related developments.
  • Solid understanding of civil engineering and surveying practices and terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to take field and survey data through plotting and produce finished civil and site drawings.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple active tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent commitment to quality and accuracy.
  • Organized, dependable, and deadline-driven work style.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers.
  • Comfortable taking direction while also exercising initiative and judgment in daily work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical certification in CAD, Civil Engineering Technology, or Surveying preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience with COGO points, point groups, feature lines, and surface generation in Civil 3D.
  • Experience creating profiles, alignments, and cross sections for civil and survey projects.
  • Background in land development projects for buildings, rather than solar or telecommunications projects.
  • Experience with site development, grading, and civil design drafting.
  • Willingness to learn new tools and methods and to expand technical skills over time.
  • Interest in working in an environment where promotions are based on performance and contribution.
