Job Title: Structural Welder

Job Description

This role focuses on structural welding for commercial construction projects, using stick welding methods to help build and erect steel structures for commercial buildings. You will work primarily on active jobsites, contributing to the safe and accurate assembly of structural components.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural welding on commercial jobsites using stick welding methods to assemble and secure steel components.
  • Use 7018 1/8" electrodes to complete high-quality welds that meet structural and safety standards.
  • Assist with steel erection and iron work activities, including positioning, aligning, and securing structural steel members.
  • Work with precast erectors and steel erectors to support the installation and connection of structural elements.
  • Interpret directions from supervisors and follow project plans to ensure accurate placement and welding of structural components.
  • Inspect welds visually to confirm quality, structural integrity, and adherence to project specifications.
  • Work safely on active construction sites, following all safety guidelines, using appropriate personal protective equipment, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Adapt to outdoor working conditions, including cold weather, while maintaining productivity and weld quality.
  • Collaborate with team members on site to complete daily tasks efficiently and support overall project timelines.
  • Work typical shifts of 8–9 hours starting around 7:00 a.m., with flexibility based on project needs and seasonal demands.

Essential Skills

  • 4–5 years of experience in steel erection or iron work.
  • Proficiency in stick welding, including structural welding on steel components.
  • 3G and 4G welding certifications.
  • Experience working as a precast erector, 7018 1/8" welder, or steel erector, or in closely related structural welding roles.
  • Previous stick welding experience in a construction environment, or strong stick welding experience in another setting with readiness to work on construction sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold temperatures.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work effectively on active commercial construction sites.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial construction environments is preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing settings is acceptable if comfortable transitioning to outdoor construction work.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with precast erectors, steel erectors, and other field personnel.
  • Strong attention to detail in weld quality and structural alignment.
  • Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance and adapting to project-based schedule fluctuations.

Work Environment

This position is based on commercial construction jobsites, working primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions, including cold temperatures. Typical workdays start around 7:00 a.m. and run 8–9 hours, with some fluctuation depending on the season and project demands. The environment is team-oriented, with a strong emphasis on cooperation and representing the company well on every project. The dress code is practical and casual, typically jeans and a T-shirt, appropriate for an active construction setting where safety gear and protective equipment are also required.Exp

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sioux Falls, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00/hr.
