Senior Sales Tax AnalystAbout the Job:The Senior Analyst leads the City’s sales tax enforcement and collections efforts by leveraging data, systems, and enforcement tools. They drive process improvements, oversee complex legal and investigative actions, and guide staff in resolving high-risk accounts. By optimizing systems and ensuring consistent enforcement, the Senior Analyst strengthens the City’s financial stability and promotes fair tax compliance.

This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Sr. Sales Tax Analyst, you will:
  • Lead the operation, maintenance, and improvement of sales tax enforcement and collections systems, ensuring data accuracy and efficient workflows.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities that accelerate revenue collection.
  • Develop and run SQL (structured query language) queries, dashboards, and specialized reports to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Streamline and automate processes to reduce delays and enhance the enforcement lifecycle for thousands of accounts.
  • Oversee legal enforcement actions in partnership with the City Attorney’s Office, including preparing case materials and ensuring compliance.
  • Manage escalated and complex cases, resolving disputes and guiding staff through sensitive enforcement actions.
  • Provide daily leadership, training, and technical guidance to enforcement staff, ensuring consistent and accurate work.
  • Organize team workflows to support timely enforcement, collections activities, and legal case progression.
  • Lead projects that enhance systems, introduce innovative tools, and improve overall enforcement effectiveness.
  • Research and pilot new techniques, technologies, and processes to strengthen compliance and recovery outcomes.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
  • Sales tax enforcement processes, legal enforcement tools, and the full collections lifecycle.
  • Data analysis methods including interpreting trends and risks within large datasets.
  • SQL (structured query language), reporting tools, and systems used for revenue, tax, or collections operations.
  • City code, compliance standards, and procedures for escalated legal actions.
  • Best practices in workflow management, automation and process improvement.
Ability to:
  • Lead and optimize complex data systems, workflows, and high-volume enforcement operations.
  • Build and analyze SQL (structured query language) queries, and develop reports that drive decision-making.
  • Manage escalated cases, legal actions, and sensitive taxpayer issues with accuracy.
  • Provide leadership, training, and technical guidance to enforcement staff.
  • Implement process improvements, introduce new tools, and drive innovation in enforcement operations.
  • Independently apply judgement in interpreting laws, tax codes, regulations, collections procedures, and enforcement guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, finance, accounting, criminal justice, data analytics, or other related fields.
  • Five years of full-time professional experience in tax enforcement, collections, financial analysis, compliance, or related analytical work.

  • Experience with revenue/collections management systems, and other specialized enforcement software.
