Job Description

The SolidWorks CAD Manager oversees the creation, organization, maintenance, and optimization of the CAD environment to ensure engineering and design teams have access to accurate, standardized, and up-to-date CAD resources. This role leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of standard operating procedures, best-practice guidelines, and technical documentation that support consistent, high-quality design output across the organization. The SolidWorks CAD Manager serves as the primary administrator for SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM, providing technical leadership, training, and support to users while driving continuous improvement of CAD workflows and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve the CAD library, including parts, assemblies, templates, blocks, symbols, and drawing standards.
  • Ensure all CAD assets meet internal quality standards, industry norms, and specific project requirements.
  • Implement and manage version control and change-management processes to keep the CAD library accurate, traceable, and well organized.
  • Audit and clean up legacy CAD data to eliminate duplicates, outdated files, and inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, design, and manufacturing teams to identify new CAD library needs and integrate approved components into the system.
  • Develop clear, comprehensive SOPs for CAD workflows, file management, naming conventions, and drafting standards.
  • Create user manuals, quick-reference guides, and training materials to support consistent CAD usage across all teams.
  • Update documentation regularly to reflect software upgrades, process changes, and evolving organizational needs.
  • Establish and enforce documentation governance so that all teams follow approved CAD and documentation standards.
  • Configure and maintain CAD software environments, including user profiles, templates, tool palettes, and system settings.
  • Coordinate with IT to manage CAD and PDM software installations, licensing, and updates.
  • Troubleshoot CAD- and PDM-related issues and provide timely technical support to users.
  • Train new and existing staff on CAD standards, workflows, and best practices to ensure consistent, efficient use of SolidWorks and PDM.
  • Serve as the main person responsible for handling the administrative side of the SolidWorks Vault/PDM for the DirectAir division.
  • Lead the migration of approximately 1,500–2,000 drawings into the new SolidWorks vault, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
  • Manage and optimize SolidWorks PDM workflows, processes, and standards to support reliable data management and collaboration.
  • Work with stakeholders to continuously improve CAD and PDM processes, focusing on quality, efficiency, and ease of use.
  • Where applicable, support or oversee efforts to connect SolidWorks and PDM to an ERP system.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience working on the administrative side of SolidWorks.
  • Strong hands-on experience with SolidWorks CAD administration, including configuration, templates, and user environments.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks PDM, including vault administration and workflow configuration.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CAD workflows, processes, and standards.
  • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or Certified SolidWorks Expert (CSWE) credential.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage CAD libraries, including parts, assemblies, templates, and drawing standards.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining version control and change-management processes for CAD data.
  • Ability to develop clear SOPs, technical manuals, and user documentation for CAD and PDM usage.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for CAD and PDM-related technical issues.
  • Ability to train and support users on CAD standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, design, manufacturing, and IT teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience connecting SolidWorks and/or SolidWorks PDM to an ERP system.
  • Experience leading large-scale CAD data migrations, including organizing and cleaning legacy drawings and models.
  • Familiarity with documentation governance and enforcing standards across multiple teams.
  • Ability to create user-friendly quick-reference guides and training materials.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when managing large CAD libraries and vaults.
  • Comfort working as the primary point of contact for CAD and PDM administration within a division.
Work Environment

This position is based out of an office in West Chester, OH, with flexibility for hybrid or fully remote work depending on the candidate’s situation and experience. You will work in a professional engineering and design environment, serving as the primary administrator for the SolidWorks Vault/PDM used by the DirectAir division. The role involves extensive use of SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, and related CAD tools, with regular collaboration with engineering, design, manufacturing, and IT teams. The work focuses on managing and improving digital CAD systems and documentation rather than physical labor, and typical office hours apply, with flexibility based on project needs and coordination with distributed team members.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Cincinnati, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.67 - $57.69/hr.
