SHORT-TERM INTERIM ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, STUDENT HOUSING

28-40 HOURS PER WEEK

Under the direction of the Director of Student Housing, contributes to the planning, organization, control, and direction of the Student Housing Department; supervises student leaders and resident assistants, assists with coordination and implementation of campus activities, assists the Director of Student Housing with the evaluation and response to student conduct issues and concerns in Student Housing and on campus; participates and responds to campus situations, including campus emergencies; assists with Student Housing correspondence, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel. The Assistant Director position is a live-in professional who shall be responsible for helping to build and support a community that encourages and promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity among residents, fostering individual and collective growth and development.

Essential responsibilities are designated by *.

  1. Assists in planning and facilitating student employee selection and training and provides day-to-day supervision of Resident Assistants (RA); conducts RA meetings as required; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; interviews and selects student employees and recommends transfers, reassignment, termination, and disciplinary actions. *
  2. Responds to student conduct issues of residence hall students and other College of the Siskiyous students under the direction of the Director of Student Housing; provides leadership and advice to Residence Hall and COS students regarding conduct matters; tracks student conduct trends and identifies areas for improvement. *
  3. Coordinates, schedules, and leads campus break period teams throughout the rest of the academic year in the maintenance and preparation of rooms for COS housing; duties may include cleaning, repairs, assessment of damages, and itemizing furniture. *
  4. Assists with coordination of campus-wide and off-campus student activities in conjunction with student clubs, campus departments, and the community; serves as advisor, or co-advisor with the Director of Student Housing & Student Life, to the Associated Student Board (ASB) Student Government and nationally recognized organizations.
  5. Coordinates the room selection process and prepares residence hall correspondence, which may include residence hall applications, licenses, fees, payment contracts, and related materials; responds to student housing issues, including student needs, ID cards, lockouts, repairs, mediation, and other issues as required; collaborates with the creation, revision, and maintenance of manuals. *
  6. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, and files related to personnel and assigned activities. *
  7. Assists with transporting students, residents, camp and conference participants, student-led programs, and equipment. *
  8. Serves as a member of the District’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT); works with BIT to develop follow-up processes for at-risk students. *
  9. Attends participatory governance committees as appropriate and participates in the accreditation process. *
  10. Provides active nightly duty coverages with RAs, counsel, and manage housing situations, including campus emergencies, with a proactive approach to prioritizing student safety and well-being. *
  11. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act. *
  12. Assists the Director of Student Housing with other related duties as assigned. *
  13. Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social or behavioral sciences, college administration, counseling, or related discipline; AND
  • One to two years of direct experience working with students in an educational setting;
  • OR
  • Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience working in residential life, student housing, or student affairs environment.
  • Experience coordinating or directing collegiate-level activities, including advising student groups.
  • Work experience or training in providing referrals and crisis management.
  • Experience planning student activities and/or events.
  • Experience coordinating student leadership training programs.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid California driver’s license (must be obtained within three months of hire)
  • May be required to travel for various off-site meetings, training, conferences, workshops, and/or events in support of the overall objective of the position.
  • Occasional travel is expected for this position.
  • Live in a district-owned semi-furnished one-bedroom apartment with a residence hall with utilities (water, electricity, and internet) included.
  • Eat meals in the campus dining room using a district-supplied meal plan.
  • This position will require the employee to be on call weekends, nights, and holidays.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this classification, employees are regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time; talk or hear, in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, operate personal computers and other standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms; bend at the waist, kneel or crouch to file materials, walks up and down stairs in the campus residence halls, regularly lifts office products and supplies, furniture, and other housing equipment up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to distinguish basic shades and colors and the ability to adjust focus.

Employees are frequently required to walk and stand and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
This position will require on-call, weekend, nights and evening hours holidays.
The work environment described herein is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this classification. Incumbents in this classification may encounter frequent interruptions by college personnel, students, and the public.
This role involves the use of two-way radio communication devices, flashlights, Wi-Fi-dependent phones, batteries, and electrical equipment.

Employees are exposed to cleaning equipment such as disinfectants, sprays, sanitization equipment, and custodial supplies.

Employees work indoors and outdoors where minimal yet some exposure to environmental situations such as rain, heat, humidity, and cold. Employees perform the majority of work in a typical office condition where minimal safety conditions exist; the incumbent will experience constant interruptions in the normal course of work; noise levels may vary depending on activities of the office, division, or department, drives a vehicle to conduct work.
