Job Description
The Shop Foreman leads a high-performing service department focused on keeping vehicles in service, especially during peak times. This role oversees all maintenance operations, manages and develops service staff, maintains compliance with regulations and warranty policies, and drives performance through effective use of KPIs. The Shop Foreman ensures high-quality repairs, safe working conditions, and strong collaboration across teams to support a growing fleet of advanced vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Forecast goals and objectives for the service department and consistently work to achieve them, with a strong focus on maximizing vehicle uptime.
- Hire, train, motivate, counsel, and monitor the performance of all service department staff to build and maintain a high-performing team.
- Maintain all reporting systems required by leadership, ensuring accurate and timely submission of departmental data.
- Monitor and control department performance using appropriate KPIs, including technician productivity, efficiency, and other metrics set by leadership.
- Promote harmony and teamwork within the department and foster a collaborative relationship with customers and internal partners.
- Stay current with and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations affecting service operations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
- Ensure full compliance with warranty and policy procedures, including documentation and claim processes.
- Account for all service-related documents, ensuring none are missing and all are processed correctly and promptly.
- Conduct daily huddle meetings to communicate priorities, review performance, and align the team on goals.
- Direct and schedule the activities of all department employees to meet operational demands and service commitments.
- Facilitate and/or conduct technical training and coordinate sending employees to appropriate training programs.
- Monitor technician daily productivity and efficiency, reviewing KPIs regularly and taking action to improve performance.
- Coordinate with the parts department to monitor and follow up on parts orders, ensuring timely availability of required components.
- Maintain high-quality service repairs, minimize comebacks, and conduct periodic spot checks of completed jobs for thoroughness and quality.
- Focus on keeping vehicles in service and quickly addressing maintenance needs, particularly during peak operational periods.
- Stay informed about new equipment and tools and recommend purchases that improve efficiency, safety, or quality.
- Ensure work areas remain organized, safe, and clean, and support a professional and efficient shop environment.
- Maintain strong working relationships with vocational and technical schools and third-party workforce development vendors to support recruitment and talent development.
- Ensure proper care, storage, and inventory of special tools and equipment used in the shop.
- Maintain a safe work environment by promoting and enforcing safety practices and procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance and set a positive example for the service team.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned to support overall service operations.
Essential Skills
- At least 5 years of experience as a shop foreman or in a closely related maintenance leadership role.
- Proven experience in supervising and leading automotive or fleet repair and maintenance teams.
- Strong back ground in automotive repair and maintenance operations, including diagnosing and overseeing complex repairs.
- Demonstrated ability to forecast department performance, set goals, and manage to those objectives.
- Hands-on experience managing KPIs such as technician productivity, efficiency, and departmental performance metrics.
- Experience with maintenance supervision in environments that may include electric or advanced vehicles (EV exposure is noted).
- Solid understanding of warranty and policy procedures and how to ensure compliance within a service department.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting service operations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know requirements.
- Ability to manage documentation and reporting systems accurately and efficiently.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Organizational skills to direct and schedule multiple employees and tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Commitment to maintaining high-quality repair standards and minimizing comebacks.
- Focus on safety and ability to maintain and enforce a safe work environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting maintenance operations for advanced or autonomous vehicle fleets is beneficial.
- Familiarity with department forecasting and budgeting in a service or maintenance environment.
- Comfort working with performance data and translating KPIs into actionable improvement plans.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with vocational and technical schools and workforce development partners.
- Interest in staying current with new tools, equipment, and repair technologies and evaluating them for shop use.
- Strong communication skills to lead daily huddles, coordinate with parts and leadership, and support team alignment.
- Willingness and ability to travel for initial training, including a two-week training program out of state.

Work Environment
The Shop Foreman works on-site at a depot in the Los Angeles area, supporting maintenance operations for incoming vehicles in a high-activity fleet environment. The role involves overseeing technicians and shop activity on 2nd and 3rd shift schedules, providing leadership during off-peak hours when vehicle servicing is most active. The environment is hands-on and technical, with exposure to advanced vehicle systems and evolving tools and equipment. Initial training includes a structured two-week program with a certified technical trainer at a dedicated training facility in Arizona, conducted in small class sizes of approximately 6–9 participants to ensure focused, high-quality instruction. The shop emphasizes safety, organization, and professionalism, with clean and orderly work areas and proper care and storage of special tools. The atmosphere supports collaboration, continuous learning, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.
