Job Title: Master Automotive Technician (Electric, Hybrid, and Conventional Vehicles)

Job Description

The Master Automotive Technician performs advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This role focuses heavily on electric vehicle systems, requires current ASE or OEM electric vehicle certification, and involves mentoring other technicians, supporting shop operations, and ensuring accurate documentation of all work performed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform efficient and accurate repairs on electric, hybrid, and conventional vehicles in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Diagnose the cause of malfunctions using schematics, diagnostic equipment, and established troubleshooting methods, with a focus on electrical and EV systems.
  • Complete all work as outlined on repair orders, ensuring timely and high-quality execution of maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Communicate with the parts department to identify, request, and obtain required parts for each repair or service job.
  • Save and tag parts related to warranty work or as requested by the technical team, ensuring proper tracking and documentation.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles thoroughly to determine if additional safety or service work is required or recommended.
  • Inform the shop foreman promptly if additional work is needed, if requested work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Document all work performed and recommended services clearly and completely on the work order.
  • Road test vehicles when required to verify repairs, or coordinate with the shop foreman to complete necessary road testing.
  • Stay current with manufacturer technical bulletins, recalls, and updates, particularly those related to electric and hybrid vehicles.
  • Supervise and guide other technicians, providing mentorship, technical direction, and training on maintenance processes and protocols.
  • Support the training and development of newer technicians, sharing best practices for EV maintenance, diagnostics, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accountability for all company-owned tools, equipment, and manuals, ensuring they are used properly and returned in good condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines while working in a 24/7 service environment.
  • Interact professionally with customers and client representatives, presenting a knowledgeable and customer-focused image of the service team.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2+ years of hands-on experience working with electric vehicles (EV), including diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience as an automotive mechanic or technician.
  • Master-level technician capability with broad expertise across mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic systems.
  • Electric Vehicle certification from ASE or an original equipment manufacturer (OEM).
  • A minimum of 4 ASE certifications, with the willingness and ability to obtain the remaining ASE certifications within 1 year.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with fuses, wiring, and complex vehicle systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and using schematics and diagnostic equipment for fault identification and repair.
  • Demonstrated experience training and mentoring newer technicians on maintenance processes and protocols.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal teams, including shop foreman and parts department.
  • Customer-facing skills with a professional, presentable demeanor suitable for interacting with end customers.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-activity service shop environment with 24/7 coverage.
  • Strong attention to detail in documenting work performed and recommended services on repair orders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • ASE Certified Technician status, with multiple ASE certifications already achieved.
  • Experience working specifically as an automotive technician on electric, hybrid, and traditional combustion vehicles.
  • Back ground as a master technician or ASE certified mechanic with advanced diagnostic capabilities.
  • Prior involvement in building or supporting new service operations or programs is beneficial.
  • Comfort using and interpreting manufacturer technical bulletins and recall information.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving EV technologies and ongoing technical training.
  • Strong teamwork mindset with the ability to supervise, support, and collaborate with other technicians.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern service shop environment that provides 24/7 coverage to support vehicle operations. Technicians work in an air-conditioned service center designed for comfort and productivity, with access to company-owned tools, manuals, and diagnostic equipment. The opportunity centers on a new and exciting program, allowing you to contribute to building processes and standards from the ground up. When travel is required, flights are arranged and paid, hotels are covered up to a set nightly amount, and daily food and beverage costs are reimbursed via per diem. The dress code consists of pants or jeans, safety shoes, and a plain top appropriate for a professional, safety-focused shop setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $57.00/hr.
