Job Title: Sheet Metal Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on installing duct and HVAC systems for a new surf club and resort within a large commercial development project in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The Sheet Metal Technician will work on a new commercial construction job site, performing installation, repair, and retrofit work on galvanized and ductwall sheet metal systems while following blueprints and collaborating with other trades.

Responsibilities

  • Install duct and HVAC systems on a new commercial construction job site for a surf club and resort development.
  • Install, repair, and retrofit galvanized and ductwall sheet metal ductwork according to project specifications.
  • Hang and secure VAV boxes, offsets, dampers, and related HVAC components.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints to ensure accurate layout, placement, and installation of duct systems.
  • Use hand and power tools, including tin snips and cordless drills, to cut, fit, and assemble sheet metal components.
  • Perform duct installation, including spiral and composite duct systems, ensuring proper alignment and secure connections.
  • Inspect completed installations for quality, functionality, and compliance with mechanical and construction standards.
  • Coordinate and work alongside multiple trades on an active construction site to maintain safe and efficient workflows.
  • Transport yourself reliably to the job site using your own vehicle and maintain required tools and PPE.
  • Follow all site safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working in varying weather conditions.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6+ years of new commercial construction experience specifically in HVAC, sheet metal, and duct installation.
  • Proven experience installing galvanized and ductwall sheet metal duct systems.
  • Demonstrated new construction and retrofit experience on commercial projects.
  • Ability to hang VAV boxes, offsets, and dampers accurately and safely.
  • Ability to read and work from blueprints for mechanical and duct system layouts.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools, including tin snips and cordless drills, for sheet metal cutting and installation.
  • Experience with duct work installation, sheet metal repair, and sheet metal cutting in a commercial construction environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude for HVAC and duct system installation, repair, and construction.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to drive your own vehicle to the job site.
  • Ownership of required hand and power tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working on large commercial construction projects with multiple trades on site.
  • Experience with spiral duct installation and composite duct systems.
  • EPA 608 Certification (preferred but not required).
  • HVAC Excellence Certification (preferred but not required).
  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification (preferred but not required).
  • Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) Certification (preferred but not required).
  • HVAC/R Certification (preferred but not required).

Work Environment

The position is based on a new commercial construction job site in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, with multiple trades working side by side in an active, fast-paced environment. You will work primarily Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a guaranteed 40 hours per week. The work takes place both indoors and outdoors in a partially finished building, so conditions will be hot when the weather is hot and cold when the weather is cold. You will regularly use hand and power tools, including tin snips and cordless drills, and follow mechanical blueprints and construction plans while adhering to site safety rules and wearing appropriate PPE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $27.00/hr.
