Position Summary
Fidelio Dental Insurance is seeking an experienced and analytical Senior Underwriter to join our growing team. This role is responsible for evaluating risk, developing pricing strategies, and supporting the growth and retention of our dental insurance business. The Senior Underwriter will work closely with Sales, Account Management, and Executive Leadership to deliver competitive, sustainable pricing solutions while maintaining profitability and underwriting integrity. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced in employee benefits underwriting, with a strong understanding of dental insurance products and market dynamics.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze new business and renewal opportunities to evaluate risk and determine appropriate pricing.
- Review claims experience, utilization patterns, demographic information, and financial data to develop underwriting recommendations.
- Prepare rate calculations, pricing models, and financial projections for prospective and existing clients.
- Collaborate with Sales and Account Management teams to develop competitive benefit solutions that align with client needs and company objectives.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance of in-force business and recommend pricing or plan design adjustments when necessary.
- Support broker and client discussions by explaining underwriting decisions, pricing methodologies, and renewal strategies.
- Ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Assist in the development and enhancement of underwriting tools, reporting, and processes.
- Participate in strategic initiatives, product development efforts, and market analyses to support company growth
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of underwriting experience within the insurance or employee benefits industry.
- Experience underwriting dental, health, ancillary, or group benefits products preferred.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating large and complex group cases.
- Experience working with brokers, consultants, and employer-sponsored benefit plans.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Ability to interpret claims data, utilization reports, and underwriting metrics.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of insurance regulations, underwriting principles, and risk assessment methodologies.
