Seeking a seasoned Senior Project Manager to lead high-profile heavy civil construction projects throughout the Sacramento region. This is a pivotal leadership role for a proven professional who can confidently oversee large, complex projects, guide high-performing teams, and partner with executive leadership to deliver work that is safe, profitable, and built to last.
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead heavy civil construction projects from start to finish ranging from $15-$100 million in value, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget.
- Track project progress, costs, quantities, schedules, and forecasts; communicate project status to executive management.
- Review and manage changes in project scope, budget, and schedule; ensure proper job controls are in place.
- Support estimating and preconstruction efforts, including bid reviews and development of project budgets and schedules.
Team Management & Collaboration
- Manage, mentor, and support project teams, including Project Engineers, Superintendents, and field staff.
- Promote a positive, professional team culture and uphold company values on every project.
- Coordinate equipment, staffing, and material needs with on-site and regional counterparts.
Financial Management & Documentation
· Prepare monthly billings, cash flow projections, change orders, and other project documentation.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials and long-lead items.
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
- Manage subcontractors to ensure performance of the full scope of their contracts.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company safety programs, quality standards, and operational procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management/Technology, or related field; or equivalent heavy civil construction experience.
- 10+ years of progressive heavy civil experience (paving, grading, earthwork), including 7+ years in a supervisory or project leadership role.
- Experience managing field teams and subcontractors on public and/or private works projects; familiarity with public agency specifications.
- Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction means and methods (paving, earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, structures).
- Proficiency with project management and scheduling tools (P6, Bluebeam, PlanGrid/Build, or similar).
- Solid understanding of contracts, change management, scheduling, cost control, and standard industry practices.
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Valid driver’s license
- Required to pass pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background checks.
- Willingness to travel as needed and work long or irregular hours during peak periods.
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform frequent walking, standing, bending, climbing, and navigating uneven terrain during site visits.
- Occasional ability to crawl or work in confined spaces and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Strong safety awareness when working around heavy equipment and active construction areas.
