Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer – Early Research & Development

Role Summary
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, development, characterization, and integration of advanced sequencing systems.
This is a hands-on, multidisciplinary role focused on solving core mechanical challenges. You will design and develop electro-mechanical, pneumatic, thermal, and fluidic systems to ensure high performance, reliability, and longevity of next-generation sequencing platforms.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design and development of subsystems, including:
- Electro-mechanical components
- Pneumatic systems, Fluidic systems, Thermal systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, materials, and consumables teams to define and manage technical interfaces
- Own subsystem performance during:
- Integration, Verification, Troubleshooting
- Conduct and lead cross-functional design reviews, resolving technical trade-offs
- Drive technical execution and manage subsystem timelines
- Create and maintain detailed design documentation:
- CAD models
- Engineering drawings
- Specifications
- Contribute to system-level technical strategy with data-driven recommendations
- Present technical progress, design decisions, and trade-offs to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field + 1+ years industry experience, OR
- Master’s degree + 2+ years experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree + 4+ years experience
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Mechanical and electro-mechanical systems\
- Experience designing complex systems, preferably for life sciences or diagnostic instrumentation
- Proficiency in fluidics system development (interfaces, pumps, valves, tubing, sensors, materials)
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks)
Additional Notes
- Experience in life science instrumentation is strongly preferred
- Specialization in fluidics/microfluidics is NOT required
- This is a hands-on engineering role requiring practical prototyping and testing
