Senior Mechanical Engineer – Advanced Instrumentation (W2 only role)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced instrumentation systems. This is a hands-on role focused on building innovative electro-mechanical, fluidic, pneumatic, and thermal solutions to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of next-generation platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical sub-systems (electro-mechanical, thermal, pneumatic, fluidic)
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, systems, and materials teams
- Develop mechanisms for automated loading, sealing, and system reliability
- Design and integrate thermal control systems (heating/cooling, sensors, heat management)
- Support system integration, testing, and troubleshooting
- Lead design reviews and resolve technical trade-offs
- Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation
- Drive timelines and deliverables for assigned sub-systems
- Present technical progress and recommendations to stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field:
- Hands-on experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems
- Strong expertise in thermal management and temperature control systems
- Experience with fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors)
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Experience designing for manufacturing (machining, injection molding, 3D printing)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware systems
- Experience with life science or diagnostic instrumentation
- Familiarity with prototyping tools (3D printing, CNC, lab equipment)
- Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, LabVIEW, or similar)
- Experience with simulation tools (CFD, FEA)
- Background in genomics or sequencing platforms
- Experience in regulated environments
- Strong communication and organizational skills
