Senior Mechanical Engineer – Advanced Instrumentation (W2 only role)


Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced instrumentation systems. This is a hands-on role focused on building innovative electro-mechanical, fluidic, pneumatic, and thermal solutions to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability of next-generation platforms.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical sub-systems (electro-mechanical, thermal, pneumatic, fluidic)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, systems, and materials teams
  • Develop mechanisms for automated loading, sealing, and system reliability
  • Design and integrate thermal control systems (heating/cooling, sensors, heat management)
  • Support system integration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Lead design reviews and resolve technical trade-offs
  • Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, and technical documentation
  • Drive timelines and deliverables for assigned sub-systems
  • Present technical progress and recommendations to stakeholders


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field:
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems
  • Strong expertise in thermal management and temperature control systems
  • Experience with fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Experience designing for manufacturing (machining, injection molding, 3D printing)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware systems
  • Experience with life science or diagnostic instrumentation
  • Familiarity with prototyping tools (3D printing, CNC, lab equipment)
  • Basic scripting or automation experience (Python, LabVIEW, or similar)
  • Experience with simulation tools (CFD, FEA)
  • Background in genomics or sequencing platforms
  • Experience in regulated environments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
