Position Overview
Burrill Poole PLLC is seeking a Senior Litigation Associate Attorney (5–8 years’ experience) to join our team. The ideal candidate will independently manage complex litigation matters, develop case strategy, and serve as a key point of contact for clients. This role is well-suited for an attorney ready for increased responsibility, courtroom exposure, and leadership opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Litigation Strategy & Case Management: Independently manage a caseload of complex commercial and healthcare-related litigation matters from inception through resolution, including case strategy, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
- Drafting & Advocacy: Draft and argue substantive motions, pleadings, and briefs, including dispositive motions, discovery motions, and appellate filings as applicable.
- Discovery & Depositions: Oversee all aspects of discovery, including written discovery, document review, and taking and defending depositions.
- Court Appearances: Appear in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings, and arbitration/mediation settings on behalf of clients.
- Client Counseling: Provide strategic, business-oriented legal advice to clients regarding risk, litigation exposure, and dispute resolution strategies.
- Dispute Resolution: Lead or play a key role in settlement negotiations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Work closely with partners and junior attorneys, providing mentorship and oversight where appropriate.
- Subject Matter Exposure: Handle a range of disputes, including commercial litigation, healthcare-related disputes, employment matters, partnership disputes, and regulatory or administrative proceedings.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited U.S. law school
- Admission to at least one U.S. state bar (D.C. admission or ability to waive in preferred)
- 5–8 years of litigation experience in a law firm or comparable setting
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage litigation matters and client relationships
- Strong experience with motion practice, discovery, and depositions
- Trial or arbitration experience preferred
- Experience with healthcare or private equity-related disputes is a plus
- Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Client-focused mindset with strong business judgment
- Ability to travel as required

- Weekends as needed
Work Location:
This role will be the first position based in the firm’s new Washington, D.C. office. The firm is currently flexible with respect to remote versus in-person work arrangements, with expectations to evolve as the office is established. Travel may be required.
