Position Summary:

The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer specializes in the design, development, and inspecting of Instrumentation & Controls equipment, components, or systems for life-science, biopharmaceutical, and/or microelectronics/semiconductor facilities. Studies new technologies and researches innovative solutions and product designs. The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge. Works autonomously and may provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in specialization.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Engineers and Designers on large and complex projects. Maintain and foster morale and culture within the team.
  • Interact and coordinate with project management, vendors, clients, design members and fellow engineers to solve complex process engineering and piping issues.
  • Review and develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in conjunction with Process and Mechanical Engineers.
  • Select, apply, and specify instrumentation required to support processes.
  • Develop Instrument Data Sheets and lists, Panel layouts and details.
  • Ability to arrange Instrumentation & Controls equipment on plan drawings/3D model
  • Verify that the design is consistent with industry-accepted practice, leading-edge technologies and special client-preferred features.
  • Perform self QA/QC on deliverables, as well as on deliverables by other engineers.
  • Participate in Services During Construction activities including reviewing RFI’s, submittals, responding to design change notices, issuing field change bulletins, attending site walk-throughs and issuing field observation reports, developing operational and functional acceptance tests, developing record drawings and producing other system documentation.
  • Understand and work within the scope, schedule, deliverables, and man-hours budgeted for assigned tasks.
  • Support, by active participation, corporate and discipline-specific procedures, and policies.
  • Produce and review 2D and 3D design drawings for high technology facilities in accordance with project requirements, codes, specifications, and procedures.
  • Participate in multi-discipline coordination & clash checking efforts.
  • Perform site surveys of existing services to ascertain “as-built” conditions.

Education/Experience:

Master's degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Software Skills: Revit, AutoCAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, Trade specific design tools, DPS PMR
