Senior Ground Software Engineer

A leading space technology organization is seeking a Senior Ground Software Engineer to develop mission-critical software supporting satellite operations and data processing systems. This role sits at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and real-world mission operations. You will play a key role in designing and delivering highly reliable ground software that enables secure command, control, and data workflows for advanced space platforms.
What You Will Do
• Design, build, and maintain scalable ground software supporting satellite mission operations
• Develop applications for command and control, telemetry processing, scheduling, and automation
• Partner with systems engineers, operators, and product teams to deliver mission-ready solutions
• Implement secure, high-availability services using modern cloud and containerized architectures
• Contribute to system architecture, reliability strategy, and platform evolution
• Support CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and operational excellence
What You Bring
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
• 5+ years building backend or distributed systems in production environments
• Strong experience with Python and containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with cloud platforms and secure system design
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
Preferred
• Experience with aerospace, satellite systems, or mission-critical platforms
• Background supporting government or defense customers
• Experience designing APIs and working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL)
• Strong systems thinking and cross-functional collaboration skills
