Job description
Company is helping an on-demand, autonomous ride-hailing company hire a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer to support the development of key human-machine interface (HMI) systems used by riders to interact with autonomous vehicles.
In this role, you’ll develop system requirements, solve complex design challenges, prototype and validate hardware solutions, and coordinate cross-functional development activities to support critical vehicle milestones.
The ideal candidate is highly hands-on, collaborative, and experienced in electrical system design, validation, and troubleshooting within complex hardware environments.
As a User Experience Hardware Electrical Engineer, you'll:
Ideal candidate profile
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent) 5-10 years of experience in electrical component/system design and troubleshooting Experience taking a part or assembly from concept through production, working with external suppliers, and managing deliverables for multiple projects Automotive (CAN bus, automotive Ethernet, A2B, and other automotive networks), aerospace, or safety critical industry experience Experience with on-board digital serial interfaces such as SPI, UART, I2C, and I2S Experience with electrical and EMI/C testing
Daily tasks
You’ll collaborate with a team of world-class engineers with diverse backgrounds in areas such as AI, robotics, machine learning, controls, computer vision, simulation, design, and automated testing. You will be challenged to rethink what it means for hardware design to develop a purpose-built vehicle that drives itself. Working at a startup gives you the chance to manifest your creativity and make a big difference in the final product. As an Electrical Engineer on our Infotainment and Connectivity Hardware team, you will own the development of some of the key human-machine interfaces (HMI) our riders use to interact with our robot/vehicle. This includes hardware for user authentication, ingress access, communication, and cabin/occupant monitoring. In this highly cross-functional role, you will need to develop requirements, solve challenging design problems, create and test prototypes, and coordinate projects to meet critical company milestones.
Responsibilities: You are expected to be hands-on, investigating issues whenever and wherever they occur to resolve problems, drive design updates, and enable company to scale. You will specify electrical component and system requirements and lead engineering discussions and development with suppliers including drawing reviews, requirement validation, and change request documentation. You will coordinate supplier tooling and production to meet critical vehicle milestones. You will collaborate with mechanical, systems, firmware, and software engineering teams as well as system operators to iterate on existing designs and develop future solutions. You will conduct root cause analysis during the development, validation, build, and deployment phases for issue resolution including detailed log reviews and component investigations. You will support the development and execution of system and component-level validation test plans. You will work with manufacturing and quality engineers to mature components and support vehicle build, bring-up, and test activities.
Bonus Qualifications: Knowledge of automotive functional safety (ISO26262) standards Firmware / Software experience (managing/developing/testing) including functional knowledge of python, c/c++, and other scripting languages. Experience with chassis and/or electromechanical systems Experience with high speed bus protocols such as PCIe, Display Port, and HDMI Experience using Altium, 3DX, Catia V5/V6, or similar tools
