I. Job Summary

The Senior District Fleet Manager is responsible for managing the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment within an assigned district, in alignment with WM’s corporate objectives, safety standards, and operational goals. This role provides strategic leadership to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective fleet operations while developing high-performing maintenance teams and driving continuous improvement.

 

The position is accountable for the performance, reliability, and lifecycle management of approximately 195 fleet assets, with responsibility for maintenance execution, financial performance, safety compliance, and workforce development across the district.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead all fleet and maintenance operations within the assigned district, with a strong focus on safety, reliability, cost control, and asset utilization.

• Ensure safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements and customer commitments.

• Drive strict adherence to WM’s Mission to Zero safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

• Oversee and review capital equipment planning and requisitions in alignment with corporate guidelines and long-term fleet strategy.

• Conduct ongoing fleet and maintenance evaluations to ensure PM compliance, quality repairs, and effective asset lifecycle management.

• Ensure maintenance operations are properly staffed, well-trained, and operating efficiently.

• Develop, coach, and lead maintenance supervisors, technicians, and support staff through effective performance management, training, and succession planning.

• Partner closely with Operations, Finance, and Regional leadership to support market profitability and operational excellence.

• Manage fleet-related budgets, participate in annual planning, and meet all financial review, forecasting, and reporting requirements.

• Ensure effective utilization of WM fleet management systems, maintenance platforms, and performance data.

• Lead and participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and cross-functional initiatives.

• Prepare, review, and submit required reports accurately and on time.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities

• Oversees fleet and maintenance leadership roles, technicians, and support staff.

• Responsible for hiring, coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee development.

• Provides input on compensation, promotions, and terminations in partnership with leadership and HR.

IV. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree (accredited), or High School Diploma / GED with four (4) years of relevant experience.

• Minimum five (5) years of fleet or maintenance management experience.

• Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Extensive hands-on fleet maintenance leadership experience.

• Experience managing large, complex fleets (100+ assets).

• Strong financial, analytical, and people leadership skills.

• Ability to travel within the assigned district as required.

V. Physical & Work Environment

• Combination of office, shop, and field environments.

The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $91,350 - $116,445per year. This range represents a good faith estimate fort his position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
