Position Overview:

Alto is seeking a Sr. Manager, Driver Growth to lead the teams and strategies responsible for finding, recruiting, onboarding, and training Alto's driver workforce at scale. This is a high-impact leadership role sitting at the intersection of talent acquisition, operations, and strategy. This role oversees two distinct teams: a recruiting team driving candidate pipelines, and a field-based training team that handles in-person driver onboarding across our markets.

The ideal candidate is a strong strategist and dynamic people leader with a strong track record of managing high-volume operations and hourly workforces — whether through a recruiting, people operations, or field operations background. This person brings sharp analytical instincts and a bias for action: someone who can design systems at scale, own a budget, test and iterate quickly, and still roll up their sleeves when progress is on the line. We're looking for someone who thinks end-to-end about the driver journey — from the moment a candidate sees our ad to the moment they complete their first shift — and is obsessed with making that experience exceptional. If you've run a high-volume recruiting function, managed a retail district, or led operations for a large hourly workforce and are energized by the challenge of building a best-in-class driver growth engine, we want to hear from you.

What you'll do:

  • Own and execute Alto's end-to-end Driver Growth strategy, from how we attract drivers to getting them to their first shift
  • Lead and develop two teams: a field-based training and onboarding team, and a multi-market salaried recruiting team
  • Optimize recruiting ad spend across channels, improving cost-per-hire while maintaining candidate quality and volume
  • Analyze and continuously improve the recruiting funnel, identifying drop-off points and implementing solutions to drive conversion
  • Own the Driver Growth budget, forecasting headcount needs and managing spend against targets
  • Oversee the full driver onboarding experience, ensuring every new driver feels prepared, supported, and set up for success from day one
  • Partner with market operations teams to align hiring volume with business needs across all markets
  • Use data to drive decision-making across recruiting and onboarding functions
  • Balance efficiency, volume, and quality to consistently meet aggressive hiring goals
  • Champion a driver experience that reflects Alto's commitment to hospitality, safety, and excellence — starting before the first shift

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 8+ years of experience, including 4+ years in a leadership role, preferably in HR/people operations, recruiting, or high-volume field operations. Startup experience is a plus!
  • Proven experience managing or working closely with hourly workforces at scale
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop both hourly and salaried team members, including experience managing or developing other managers
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills: comfortable owning a budget, interpreting data, and building scalable systems
  • A bias for action and a track record of testing, iterating, and improving processes quickly
  • Experience optimizing high-volume recruiting funnels or operational workflows
  • Strong communicator and cross-functional collaborator who can build alignment across markets and functions
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple markets and teams
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking systems and/or HR and operations technology platforms. Bonus points if you’re familiar with Fountain.

Perks of the ride:

  • Competitive base salary, bonus, and equity in a high-growth startup
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401k with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Free Alto membership and monthly credit to ride with Alto
