Title: Sr. Designer

Location: Morgantown, WV

Hire Type: Contractto hire

Compensation: $35-41/hour

Essential Functions

  • Hold expert knowledge of industry-standard design software (AutoCAD family of products) and apply best practices to project requirements.
  • Ensure the company remains current on the latest industry technology and tools, recommending updates when necessary.
  • Under the direction of Project Managers or Lead Engineers, communicate and coordinate with clients to resolve project questions regarding design requirements and standards.
  • Provide clear updates on project status to both internal teams and external clients.
  • Train, coach, and mentor design staff, including researching and coordinating training opportunities.
  • Recommend and enforce company policies, procedures, and design standards.
  • Review work of other designers/drafters for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Assist in hiring new design talent and conducting performance reviews with the Drafting & Design Coordinator and HR.
  • Escalate issues to Principals as needed.
  • Collaborate with Principals on project design changes, contract modifications, and manpower requirements.
  • Review work in progress by team members or outside consultants to ensure satisfactory performance.
  • Compile information for Principals to verify work is on schedule and meets contract requirements.
  • Establish project-specific drafting procedures consistent with company standards.
  • Support engineering and project management teams with tasks such as researching specifications and vendor coordination.
  • Assist with updates, revisions, and maintenance of drafting and design standards.
  • Perform Designer-level responsibilities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Designer.
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to find alternative solutions.
  • Provide clear direction to assigned staff and maintain effective communication within dynamic design teams.
  • Solve complex problems and implement innovative design approaches.
  • Establish and maintain standards, processes, and systems within the team.
  • Participate in and lead meetings with senior management.

Experience and Education

  • Technical degree or certificate from an accredited designer/drafter program; Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum five years of experience in developing design processes and driving innovation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, CADWorx, Plant 3D, and Civil 3D.
  • Experience with other 3D software (e.g., Revit) is a plus.
