This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Construction Project Manager, Federal Programs with the potential to work out of either Richmond, VA or Virginia Beach, VA.

Your Impact

Business Development:

  • Maintain ongoing relationships with existing clients to foster repeat business and referrals. 
  • Monitor local and regional construction projects for potential opportunities. 
  • Support contract negotiations with clients to reach mutually beneficial agreements. 
  • Network with industry professionals at conferences, events, and through professional associations. 
  • Support Proposal Preparation Efforts.
  • Attend Meetings and Related Industry Event as Needed.

 

Pre-construction phase:

  • Assist in site selection and feasibility analysis.
  • Conduct constructability reviews of design documents. 
  • Coordinate cost estimating and budget development efforts by our Estimating Team.
  • Lead project planning and schedule preparation effort and coordinate with project controls team. 
  • Support client during project procurement phase and contractor selection. 
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other consultants, in-house and outside consultants. 

 

Construction phase:

  • Identify and manage potential risks, mitigate or minimize 
  • Spearhead the implementation of a PMIS system for the client
  • Monitor project progress against schedule and budget 
  • Manage project change and recommend actions
  • Oversee quality control and safety compliance 
  • Reviews project activities with client, designer, and contractor’s field supervision resolving any issues
  • Oversees materials testing activities
  • Review daily inspection reports and other project documentation
  • Facilitate communication between the owner, design team, and contractors 
  • Conduct regular site visits and progress meetings 
  • Analyze project data to identify cost-savings opportunities 
  • Provide recommendations for project scope adjustments as needed 
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

 

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of relevant construction experience
  • Demonstrated successful relationships with clients in a business development and project situation.
  • A demonstrated ability to read and completely understand contract documents 
  • Deep understanding of construction practices, building codes, and project delivery methods
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Proven experience in construction management, preferably with a focus on owner representation
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) / Licensed Civil Engineer or Certified Construction Manager (CCM) preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a US government security clearance.
