Who We Are:
Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) is the provider of mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder services for children and adults in Chesterfield County. The Adult Substance Use Services team is seeking a qualified and experienced Senior Clinician to join our ASAM Level 1 Outpatient program. Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in human services or related field; three years of experience related to assigned program; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience using an electronic health record preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts of normal and abnormal human behavior, personality development, family and group dynamics; considerable knowledge of and an ability to apply a variety of psychotherapeutic treatment techniques/modalities; adherence to basic ethics appropriate for a professional helping relationship; knowledge of mental health diagnoses, assessment, and/or psychological and educational testing; some knowledge of consultation program; considerable knowledge of psychosocial history development; very good interviewing and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Computer proficiency skills; working knowledge of electronic health record systems. Demonstrated ability to lead others. Skilled in the use of evidence-based treatment modalities such as medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD), harm reduction interventions, Motivational Interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), assertive community treatment (ACT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) preferred. Working knowledge of the ASAM Criteria and the ability to apply these criteria to make treatment recommendations preferred; ability to provide focused counseling services preferred, skilled in clinical writing and documentation preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Must hold an active professional license in the State of Virginia (Licensed Clinical Social Worker/LCSW, Licensed Professional Counselor/LPC, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist/LMFT, or Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner/LSAPT) or be fully licensed within 6 months of hire.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Completes comprehensive needs assessments, including the use of ASAM Criteria, to determine diagnosis and treatment recommendations for individuals impacted by substance use, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions;
• Creates and oversees Individualized Service Plans and works together with individuals to establish goals, objectives and interventions to meet the identified needs;
• Employs evidence-based practices to independently and effectively deliver individual and group therapy services for adults aged 18 and older, who are experiencing various substance use and mental health diagnoses, and who have limited resources and complex service needs;
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation into an Electronic Health Record per Licensure, Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards for practice;
• Provides case management and care coordination including routine collaboration with other treatment professionals and referring providers including Primary Care Physicians (PCP), Community Corrections, Probation and Parole, and Department of Social Services;
• Stays up to date with current and new research and best practices in mental health;
• Interfaces with internal and external providers, agencies and stakeholders; and
• Performs other work as required.
This position is a part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with two required evening shifts until 9:00 p.m. on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.Mental Health Support Services
