Senior Accountant

LHH
Riverside, CA

Step into the right-hand seat next to the Controller — with a real path to their chair. A well-established Orange County professional services firm is hiring a Senior Accountant who's ready to outgrow the title.

The Controller is building this role as their right hand and as the succession plan for her eventual move up. You'll do what they do — close, financials, banking conversations, lease accounting, covenant reporting, compliance, projects — with full exposure to the partners.

What you'll own

  • Month-end close on a 7-day target — journal entries, accruals, schedules, reconciliations
  • Financial statement review and analysis
  • Lease accounting under ASC 842 and fixed asset tracking
  • LOC covenant reporting and analysis
  • Oversight and support across AP, AR, and payroll
  • Process improvement and automation projects — ERP enhancements, reporting builds
  • Sitting in on banker and broker meetings alongside the Controller

What you bring

  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong general-ledger foundation
  • Advanced Excel — lookups, pivots, and the ability to build reports from a blank sheet
  • Power BI exposure a plus
  • Bachelor's in accounting or business
  • The right wiring: drive, proactivity, ownership, and a genuine interest in becoming a manager
  • Comfortable building relationships across a partnership where different stakeholders will want different things
  • A "wants to understand the why" mindset — even when the topic isn't already in your wheelhouse

Why this one is worth a look

  • Genuine succession path — this role exists because the Controller is building their bench
  • Right-hand seat: you'll touch everything the Controller touches, including banker and broker conversations
  • Stable, profitable, partner-owned firm with steady growth — not a turnaround story
  • Real scope: lease accounting, covenant reporting, payroll oversight, AP/AR oversight, automation work, and partner-facing reporting — broader than a typical SRA seat
  • Small firm that runs like a large one — modern stack, 50-person corporate office, mature processes
